Today we became forensic scientists and used clues to solve the case of “the missing cookies”. We analyzed fingerprints left at the crime scene and learned about how each of our fingerprints is unique. We also used chromatography to separate the ink on a note left by the thief. In the end we were able to identify which suspect was guilty and found the missing cookies.

Our young engineers wrapped up their boat engineering unit by learning about icebreakers, trawlers, submarines, and cruise ships! ⚓️🌊 Then it was their turn to become boat designers! The kids built a boat they learned about or created a completely unique design of their own. We loved watching their creativity, problem-solving, and engineering skills come to life! 🛠️💡

🦫🌿 Today we learned how Idaho’s beavers change their environment by building dams in rivers and streams to help them survive!
Our little builders got hands-on by creating their own dams with dirt and sticks. And of course, we had to end our learning with a yummy edible dam made with pudding and pretzels! 😋🦫
Learning about nature is always more fun when we can get messy, build, and taste our way through it! 🌱💦

The kids built their own volcanoes, learned about the different parts of a volcano, and discovered what happens during an eruption. Then came the best part—watching their volcanoes erupt using baking soda, vinegar, and a little dish soap!
The bubbling eruption is caused by a chemical reaction. When baking soda (a base) and vinegar (an acid) mix together, they create carbon dioxide gas. The dish soap traps the gas in bubbles, creating the foamy “lava” that flows out of the volcano.

🚤💨 Not every boat needs a hull!
This week we mixed up our boat unit by building mini hovercrafts using a CD, a bottle cap, and a balloon. 🎈
As the balloon deflates, air rushes out through the bottle cap and spreads underneath the CD. This creates a thin cushion of air that lifts the hovercraft just enough to reduce friction with the surface. With less friction holding it back, even a gentle push sends it gliding across the table!
Real hovercrafts use the same science. They blow powerful fans beneath the craft to create an air cushion, allowing them to travel over water, land, mud, ice, and sand—making them incredibly versatile vehicles.
