David Davis, an instrumental and general music teacher at Park Spanish Immersion Elementary in the St. Louis Park school district, is the 2026 Minnesota Teacher of the Year.

Congratulations to Dr. Vanessa Cornett and Salam Murtada on the publication of their article "Piano Music by Arab Composers" in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Journal! Their research highlights that while Arab composers have have produced a rich and diverse body of piano literature, much of it remains largely unknown -- and, in many cases, inaccessible -- to teachers and performers in North America. Dr. Cornett and Mr. Murtada offer a sweeping survey of solo piano repertoire composed between 1932-2025. In addition, Dr. Cornett presented a talk on their research on April 13 as part of Research Week!

Dr. Gurt will present a solo recital, work with St. Thomas students in a Masterclass, and be a featured concerto soloist with the St. Thomas Festival Orchestra in the closing concert of this year's Chapel Arts Series.
