I am so honored to teach Kindergarten at the ECC next school year. As a parent of past and present ECC students, I know firsthand how special and unique this school community is! I have taught Kindergarten and 1st grade for 15 years. My favorite part of being an Early Childhood Teacher is building relationships with my students and making the classroom a highly engaging, creative, and fun environment. When I am not teaching, I love to read, go on walks, and take trips with my family. I am excited for the new school year!

Celebrating the Early Childhood Center's metaphor, Studio Night is a showcase of amazing project work that children and teachers have engaged in this year. This approach to teaching, defined in Reggio Emilia, Italy, inspires the work at ECC. It allows teachers and students to collaborate by intertwining interests with grade-level standards.

Some project work examples by grade level:

Preschool - rainbows and journals, fundamentals of clothing design, study of wild cats, exploration of mazes, self-portraits through various art mediums
Kindergarten - creative engineering, exploring cryptic creatures, game makers studio
1st Grade - speaking to connect, focused brains, rock exploration, growing your brain through movement
2nd Grade - dazzling leaders, the art of being "me," explorers and creators, lights/camera/action

Community artists and musicians showed up in force to demonstrate drums, piano, puppets, painting, leather crafting, dancing, photography and Lego construction.

"Hello, my name is Ms. Alexandra Ormsby, but I go by Alex. I attended Webster University, earning my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Early Childhood Education in May 2015. Since then, I have had the pleasure of being an elementary school teacher in the St. Louis area. Personally speaking, I am a St. Louis native and, as a result, am a fierce STL sports fan - go Cardinals, Blues, and STL City SC! I love running in Forest Park, seeing the animals at the zoo, taking in shows at The Fabulous Fox and The Muny, and exploring our free museums. While I have been teaching for eleven years now, I am excited to join the ECC Team next year as a First Grade Teacher."

It's delightful to see so many families making special arrangements to attend and, in some cases, volunteer at the annual ECC Farmers Market. The weather was ideal for this vibrant, sensory, and community-driven experience which featured a riot of colors and a menagerie of furry visitors.
