Urgent help is needed to fight fires in Indonesian Borneo. These videos were shared with us by Dr. Cheryl Knott, director of the Gunung Palung Orangutan Conservation Program. The firefighting effort has been ongoing for days, and the fires will have long-term consequences for orangutan survival, the forests that support them, and the villages that work hard to live in harmony with this precious environment. You can help.

Here is an article about the situation in The Guardian:

Please donate to the groups on the ground that are putting all their resources toward this disaster. Here are two that are right there and critical to resolution.

We carry out safe annual sampling from >500 animals every year in the Peruvian Amazon. Three of the 5 people in the picture are new to the project, they make this work possible and they acquire some worthwhile skills and experience in the process.

The “monkey in the middle” is special, his name is BLBG. We first met him in 2012 (as a young adult), here he is with the team in 2026, you can do the math. The Messi of present day tamarins.

Picture 2: BLBG’s mug shot in 2013 (we didn’t have a good camera in 2012).

Picture 3: BLBGs 2026-year-old feet.

There is no better metric for how a forest is doing than the survival of animals like BLBG, and last we checked, FPI collects longitudinal data on greater than 300 species (even tiny individual bats we monitor from year to year).

Reach out to us at [email protected] and we would happily discuss how you can help sustain this program. Donations are great, this year two participant scholarships were funded by donations alone. There are other ways besides donations. We are a 501c3 charity, we do this work for you and for animals like BLBG.

Last field season, video journalists Georgia Krause (Seattle, WA) and Andrea Ramos Maldonado (Lima, Peru) were with the team at in Peru, capturing the lively and fast-paced activity of our research during the peak of the season. 🌿 We are very excited to share their final works!

There's more to it than just recording the action! 📹 To create final products like Georgia & Andrea do, hundreds of hours of footage must be meticulously edited for quality and, most importantly, for purpose. Will this video demonstrate detailed protocols for a scientific audience? 🧬 Will it tell a moving story of wildlife conservation to the animal-loving public? 🐾 Mastering this skill is key to effective scientific communication! 📝

Enjoy some photos and stay tuned for their final works!

For two years, the FPI field team worked tirelessly to facilitate the filming of Emperor tamarin groups for BBC 's latest project, "The Americas", narrated by Tom Hanks. While they may be a new face to television, these tamarins have been studied by our team since 2009, monitoring population, behavior, disease, and more. They face an increasingly threatened landscape, as do all the constituents of the Amazon rainforest.

Under the guidance of .a.e.w. & , the tireless work of field team members .insitu & .nick made this incredible segment come to life. A huge thank you to everyone who made this possible!

These resilient primates have made their debut in Episode 4, titled "The Amazon", streaming on Peacock & NBC! We hope that this exposure brings more attention to their conservation, and the critical work we do worldwide. 🐒
