Last, but definitely not least…Sixth Grade!

As the oldest leaders on campus, sixth graders step into this final year with immense pride. This is when we see the most growth in self-advocacy, organization, empathy and character.

Guiding them through this milestone year is a dedicated two-teacher team, along with small advisory groups that provide intentional mentorship around leadership, executive functioning, and personal growth. Together with our administrative team, they walk alongside families through the secondary school process, ensuring graduates step into their next chapter with confidence.

SIXTH GRADE HIGHLIGHTS:

>> Big Brother / Big Sister Mentorship: Serving as trusted friends and role models to younger students across all grade levels.
>> The Hero Project: A capstone research project where students research a hero who changed the world while discovering how they can make a difference, too.
>> The Probability Carnival: Designing and hosting interactive, math-based arcade games for younger students!
>> Team-Building and Milestone Trips: Unforgettable experiences designed to strengthen bonds, build resilience, and celebrate their final year together, including an end-of-year trip to the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee and Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.

Next up in our grade-level countdown is Fifth Grade!

Fifth Grade is where independence and expanded perspectives gain real momentum!

Fifth graders are stepping into a whole new level of maturity as they lead lively book debates, collaborate in science labs, and navigate deeper friendships. Guiding them through this big year is an incredible team: Mrs. Menees, known for helping students discover their voice and tap into their emotions through language arts, and Mr. Valdez (seen here with a student who drew on a matching mustache for Twin Day!), known for providing a rock-solid mathematical foundation. Together, they create an environment where fifth graders truly thrive.

FIFTH GRADE HIGHLIGHTS:
>> Student-Led Book Clubs: Moving beyond reading into rich literature discussions, grammar mastery, and expressive writing.
>> Inquiry Math & Real-World Logic: Tackling multi-step math puzzles through hands-on discovery, logic puzzles, and real-world problem-solving.

Moving along to Fourth Grade...

Look closely at our fourth-grade schoolwork, and you’ll find yourself blown away by the real artistry and complex thinking.

Fourth graders take huge strides in confidence and academic maturity. At this age, students are often eager to try new things, challenge themselves, and engage deeply in hands-on learning experiences. They love logic, debate, and taking on multi-step challenges.

Joining Mrs. Naomi Smith in the Fourth Grade classroom this year is Mrs. Katherine Schroeder! Both are avid lovers of the outdoors and have a knack for creating experiences that develop both independence and teamwork.

FOURTH GRADE HIGHLIGHTS:
>> The Traveling Zoo: Combining science research, writing, and public speaking about an animal of their choice.
>> History and Architecture: Exploring Lafayette Square and documenting Victorian architecture through careful observation, detailed drawings, and descriptive writing.
>> Real-World Math: Using geometry, scale, and perimeter calculations to map out and draw custom dream house floor plans!
>> Service with Heart: Visiting the Humane Society to collect supplies and read books to dogs waiting for forever homes.

As the first year of Upper School, Third Grade is the year students step into "big kid" territory. It’s equal parts thrilling and challenging as students learn to navigate letter grades for the first time, master multiplication, and discover the power of their own words.
