How comfortable are you holding grief when it shows up in a client session?

Not conceptually.
Not “I learned this in training.”

Because I’ll be honest…

I used to feel wildly uncomfortable with it.

Grief wasn’t something we talked about growing up.​
So when it showed up in my coaching space, I froze.

I remember one client whose sister passed away suddenly while we were working together.​
​I had no idea how to hold her in that.

And then there was another client…

Who, during our time together, began remembering a sexual assault she experienced as a teen something her nervous system had buried for years.

She finally felt safe enough to feel it.
To grieve it.

And I was sitting there realizing

This is part of the work.

Not all grief belongs in a coaching container.
Sometimes a therapist absolutely needs to be involved.

But there’s also so much that does belong here.
