SWIM STRONG 2023

“I can do hard things”……secrets, facts and reflections from my swim yesterday:
*secret-I was sick as a dog! And still am, I’m fighting a raging sinus infection and instead of being curled up in a blanket with my pets on my couch I was facing the daunting challenge of swimming in the chilly waters off of Alcatraz. All I kept saying to myself is John would still do it! So I did. What’s the worst that could happen, I get netted out by safety with a warm blankie🤷🏻‍♀️
-water temp 63, air 60 👍🏻wetsuit
-pretty good sized flood current coming in from the Golden Gate Bridge, helpful and also not helpful.
Entry was invigorating after tossing our flowers in the water for our loved ones, chilly at first but I warmed up fast. Then onward… pretty comfortable pace with the flood current pushing me, I liked it! Then the hardest part, swimming into Aquatic Park Cove between the 2 piers, current was not helpful here, a little scary…. if you don’t pick up your pace and swim hard you will be off to Oakland in a flash. I was in! Then a nice cool down (sort of) swim into our finish in front of Ghirardelli Square.
- It was exhilarating to finish
- a little dizzy from being tossed around in the water
-43 min to complete
- I ate a whole baguette 🥖 in back of our car after
Today as we travel back to St. Louis, I am tired, sore, still sick AND proud… “I can do hard things!” Swim Strong 💪 02:04
