Everyone belongs in our classroom & school communities as well as in our family & local communities. When every individual, regardless of ability, is truly seen, appreciated & included in our various communities, we all benefit.
The various talents & gifts of each individual, no matter what those might be, enrich the experiences of everyone in our communities, if we accept the wonderful strengths they have to offer us!

Today's post comes from one of our all-time favorite superheroes: Spider-man, Tom Holland.
Tom has played Spider-Man more than any other actor. He might use his spidey senses to save New Yorkers from crime, but he first found out that he was born with extra-ordinary abilities at the age of 7. Tom's dyslexia gave him added strengths as a dancer and gymnast. In fact, he flipped his way in and out of his Spider-Man audition.
Amazing to see Tom speak about the power of Lego to unleash his creativity. Like many dyslexic Makers, Tom uses his xtraordinary Dyslexic Thinking skills to imagine and create, as well as see the big picture!

We do indeed need neurodiversity in our world! The contribution of different minds, abilities, talents & gifts make each of our lives richer & deeper. With neurodiversity, we have different thinkers & doers who add much to our communities. We need to look at the strengths & talents of our neurodivergent learners rather than their challenges! That is a must!

โDyslexia is more common than most people realize!โ This quote is from Steven Spielberg, who was diagnosed with dyslexia but not until he was an adult. Nearly individuals deal with this learning challenge every day.
Remember that โthe skyโs the limit,โ even when challenged with dyslexia!

โChildren don't need every quiet moment filled. Sometimes the most valuable learning begins when they have the time and freedom to create their own fun.โ - Dr. Deborah Ruf

Thanks to Teacher2Teacher for this encouraging post!
Every teacher needs to hear this or something like it from time to time. As educators, we donโt often receive feedback unless it is negative. However, when a student provides positive, unsolicited comments, those words are โgoldenโ and need to be remembered on those negative, introspective days. You ARE a very good teacher!

However, here are some EASY ways to fight it!
https://www.weareteachers.com/summer-slide/
Kids and teachers both breathe a sigh of relief when summer break finally arrives. After months of hard work, everyone deserves some time to relax. However, there are some downsides to taking 2 or 3 months completely off from learning. Some researchers say this schedule leads to significant learning loss, known as โsummer slide.โ
How worried should parents and teachers be about the negative effects of a long school vacation? Hereโs what the summer slide statistics say, and how parents can help their children make the most of summer so that learning loss is significantly limited or not experienced at all.

Thanks to Georgia Ryan - Dyslexic Warrior for sharing this post from All on the Board!
This photo is an infographic that tells the real story about what it is like to be challenged with dyslexia 24/7 & 365 days a year.
The educational world must step up & truly address the needs of these unique learners. When we do, the outcomes will be awesome because of the exceptional talents & gifts dyslexics so often have. That way, it will be a WIN-WIN for everyone & their communities!
