Extended Day in the Children’s House, a coveted spot by many in our classrooms!

This afternoon extension of the morning work cycle, offered to those in the Children’s House who are ready, allows our guides to give more 1:1 attention, diving deeper into lessons that foster literacy, language, math, reading, general curiosity. They can also work solo, dedicating all their focus on more intense work without the audience of their younger peers (who still need to nap!)

Shopping, prepping, cooking, hosting, eating…sounds like Dish Day at VdM!

On the menu: Pasta Bar 🍝

Lower Elementary students in Checkerboard made alfredo sauce, red sauce, meatballs, shredded Parmesan, broccoli and garlic bread. Classmates who were served chose the sauce and toppings to their liking. Tasty and versatile😋

MM believed concentration was impossible to force upon someone, especially children. When a child is able to freely choose the engaging task of their interest, they are capable of blocking distractions all on their own. The deep experience of focused work (perhaps you know it as “flow state”) brings children a sense of calm, pride, and joy. While this coveted state of productivity can be difficult to achieve in our fast paced, modern world we Montessorian’s believe your children are more than up to the task😉

It seems too impossible to be true, but our 6th years just spent their last full day at Villa Di Maria. After weeks of reflection, gratitude for friendship, and excitement for their futures, we know they are ready to fly. That’s the beauty of Villa Di Maria Montessori; we don’t just prepare our students to go somewhere, we prepare them to go ANYwhere🌎

(Now, if you’ll please excuse us, we need to stock up on more tissues🥹)

Upper elementary performed both plays “The Glitch” and “The Sword and the Stone” Friday evening for a packed house (pavilion), filled with parents, siblings, guides, friends, and even an alumni or two. Both of our classrooms worked tirelessly for weeks writing, rehearsing, designing, and fine tuning their plays, much to the benefit of anyone who was lucky enough to catch both shows!
