Parkway Schools The Parkway School District serves 17,000 students in west St. Louis County, Missouri.

McKelvey Intermediate teacher assistant Alex Bower-Leet kicked off a new year of the school's book club on Friday by announcing the first read: Towers Falling. 📚

"Mr. B" also told his group of readers that he'll be bringing a personal perspective to their shared reading.

Born in New York City before moving to St. Louis, Alex visited the World Trade Center with his brother just two years before 9/11 and remembers standing at the base of the towers in total awe.

Beyond his personal memories, Alex is also preserving 9/11 history as a part of his graduate studies in Library Science. The aspiring librarian currently documents oral histories for the 9.11 Legacy Foundation, interviewing fire lieutenants, first responders, survivors, and families to curate their stories for younger generations learning about the event for the first time...much like the students in the book, Towers Falling.

On September 11, 2001, Josh Eckhoff was sitting in a South High classroom watching history unfold. Having wanted to serve from a young age, that day solidified his decision to enlist in the U.S. Army.

Now a retired Staff Sergeant and wounded warrior, Josh spends Fridays at Carman Trails Elementary listening to students read. Today, on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, fourth-grader Zeki read Josh "Survivor Tree"—a story about hope and perseverance.

Watching proudly from the back of the room? Carman Trails Assistant Principal Dr. Robert Villigram, who was one of Josh’s high school teachers on 9/11.

Mark your calendar: On Tuesday, November 3, Parkway voters will decide on Proposition P — a proposed 46-cent operating tax levy increase.

If approved, Prop P would provide funding for teachers and staff, student programs and services, school safety, classroom resources, and long-term financial stability.

Over the next several weeks, we’ll share facts about why the proposal is on the ballot, how community feedback shaped it, what it would fund, and what it would mean for taxpayers.

Our goal is to ensure every Parkway resident has the information needed before heading to the polls.

Last week, we were reminded just how grateful we are for the first responders keeping our community safe!

Thank you to the Metro West, West County, and Valley Park Fire Protection Districts for responding to Thursday's call at Sorrento Springs. Crews tackled a garbage truck fire in the parking lot, extinguishing the blaze TWICE to keep the campus secure.

Classroom learning continued without interruption thanks to their quick work and coordination with school and district leaders. ❤️

Congratulations to Dr. Michael Baugus, Parkway’s chief human resources officer, who has been named the 2026 Human Resources Administrator of the Year by the Missouri Association of School Personnel Administrators!

This statewide honor recognizes Mike’s thoughtful, people-centered leadership and his commitment to ensuring Parkway employees have the support they need to do their best work for students. It also reflects the dedication of our entire Human Resources team, whose work supports staff across the district each day.

Congratulations to Mollie Sharp, the first Parkway educator recognized as the MOSHAPE Adapted PE Teacher of the Year!

As an SSD educator with more than 13 years of experience, Mollie serves seven Parkway schools, including Bellerive, Craig, Green Trails, Mason Ridge, Northeast Middle, River Bend, and Shenandoah Valley.

This statewide award recognizes an outstanding educator who excels at providing an inclusive PE experience through individualized instruction for students with exceptional physical needs, gross motor delays, or sensory-motor impairments.
