Have a wonderful winter break, Warriors! We look forward to welcoming students back to campus on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
What does it mean to learn at a school of experience? At The Whitfield School, it means wrapping your senses around new ideas.
Diving into direct contact with concepts and questions. And making, doing, and experimenting your way into knowing, understanding, and mastering. Whitfield, an independent, coeducational school for grades 6-12 in St. Louis, offers engaging, active learning through a foundational liberal arts curriculum. Here, we marry challenging coursework with transformative experiences to instill citizenship, critical thinking, and leadership skills—and to prepare students for college and everything after.

Students in Mr. Daniels’ 2D Studio: Drawing class explored how sound can be interpreted visually through a project inspired by synesthesia. Each student received an anonymous audio recording and created a drawing that translated rhythm, tone, and texture into visual form. Our middle schoolers took center stage with Hummingbird Wars, an original play written and developed entirely by students and directed by Keith Borzillo. The story follows a young girl who builds a backyard hummingbird feeder and discovers the lively world of hummingbird rivalries, debates, and inner thoughts. The production blended creativity with fascinating facts about hummingbirds and showcased the imagination and talent of our middle school community.

What does a line say about who you are? Ninth graders in Mr. Erlinger’s Design Overview class explored that question through a Line Systems Self-Portrait project. After experimenting with mark-making, grids, and photography, students created striking portraits that blend design principles with personal reflection.
