✨ Women’s History Month Spotlight ✨

Meet our incredible authors Chauncey V. Trawick (left) and Dr. Chajuana V. Trawick Ferguson (right). 📚

Chauncey V. Trawick is a retired elementary school teacher and award-winning educator, recognized with the Emerson Electric Excellence in Teaching Award and the St. Louis American Educator of the Year Award. She holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in Elementary Education, dedicating her career to inspiring young learners through literacy and education.

Dr. Chajuana V. Trawick Ferguson is a St. Louis native, educator, and entrepreneur. She holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Business Administration, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Her dissertation, “The History of Annie Malone and Poro College: Building an Empire of Beauty in St. Louis, MO from 1915–1930,” highlights the powerful legacy of Annie Malone and her impact on entrepreneurship and community.
She currently serves as an Endowed Chair and Associate Professor at Lindenwood University.

Together, these women use education, research, and storytelling to preserve and share the legacy of Annie Malone with future generations.

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate scholars, educators, and authors who continue to uplift history through knowledge and literacy. ✨

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 16, 1920, on the campus of Howard University by five remarkable women.

Built on the principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood, Zeta Phi Beta has a long tradition of community service, advocacy, and uplifting communities.

Annie Malone’s lifelong dedication to empowering Black women, supporting children and families, and giving back to her community reflects the very values that Zeta Phi Beta continues to uphold today.

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate Annie Malone’s enduring legacy and the organizations that continue to inspire service, leadership, and excellence. ✨

✨ Women’s History Month Spotlight ✨

In 1929, Annie Malone’s Poro College served as one of the host sites for the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated’s National Convention in St. Louis, Missouri.

Poro College was more than a beauty school and manufacturing company—it was a hub for education, entrepreneurship, and community leadership. By hosting this historic convention of the first African American sorority, Poro College continued its mission of empowering Black women and strengthening Black communities.

Fun Fact:
Ethel Hedgeman Lyle, founder of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1887. She later founded Alpha Kappa Alpha in 1908 at Howard University, establishing the first African American sorority.

The legacy of Annie Malone and the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha reminds us that when Black women build institutions, they build history, opportunity, and lasting impact. ✨

✨ Women’s History Month Spotlight ✨

Celebrating Marian Anderson—renowned contralto singer and cultural trailblazer. 🎶

Marian Anderson was one of the most celebrated classical singers of the 20th century. Known for her powerful contralto voice, she performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages and broke racial barriers in the arts. In 1955, she made history as the first African American to perform with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.

Fun Fact:
During her early career, Marian Anderson performed at Poro College in St. Louis, the beauty and educational institution founded by Annie Turnbo Malone. Poro College was not only a center for beauty culture and entrepreneurship but also served as a cultural hub where influential artists and leaders gathered.

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate Marian Anderson for using her voice and artistry to open doors and inspire generations in music and culture. ✨
