Thanks to Frugal Fun for Boys and Girls for this great STEM resource!

This is the COOLEST project, and it's so much fun, too! Also great for improvement of hand-eye coordination, critical thinking & problem solving. In addition, this a great activity that demonstrates recycling, repurposing & creativity at no or low cost. Enjoy! ๐Ÿ˜

Get ready for one of the most spectacular sky events of 2026! On August 12, the Moon will pass directly between Earth and the Sun, creating a breathtaking Total Solar Eclipse. ๐ŸŒ‘๐ŸŒโ˜€๏ธ

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Date: August 12, 2026
๐Ÿ•’ Maximum Eclipse: 15:46 UTC
โฐ Eclipse: 15:35โ€“19:57 UTC

๐ŸŒ‘ During totality, the Moon will completely cover the Sun, turning daylight into darkness and revealing the Sunโ€™s stunning corona โ€” its glowing outer atmosphere! โœจ

๐Ÿ“ Path of totality: Greenland โ€ข Iceland โ€ข Northern Spain โ€ข parts of Russia

๐ŸŒ A partial solar eclipse will also be visible across a much wider region, including parts of Europe, North Africa, and North America, wherever the Sun is above the horizon.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ This will be the first total solar eclipse visible from mainland Europe since 1999!

Imagine watching the sky go dark in the middle of the dayโ€ฆ ๐ŸŒ‘
The Sun disappears.
The stars and planets emerge.
And the solar corona shines around the Moon. ๐Ÿคฏโœจ

โš ๏ธ Never look directly at the Sun without proper certified solar eclipse protection.

๐Ÿ“Œ Mark August 12, 2026 on your calendar!

๐ŸŒ‘โ˜€๏ธ Would you travel to see totality? ๐Ÿ‘‡

Get ready for one of the most dramatic sky events of 2026! On August 27โ€“28, nearly the entire Moon will be swallowed by Earth's shadow during a deep partial lunar eclipse, with about 96% of the lunar disk covered at maximum.

โฐ Maximum Eclipse: August 28, 2026 โ€ข 04:12 UTC

๐ŸŒ Best Places to Watch
๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ The central and eastern United States will enjoy the entire eclipse, while western North America will see the Moon at or near its maximum eclipse as it rises.

๐ŸŒ‘ Although it isn't a total lunar eclipse, the Moon will appear strikingly dark and may take on a deep reddish hue as only a tiny sliver remains illuminated.

๐Ÿ”ญ No special equipment is requiredโ€”just find a clear sky and watch Earth's shadow slowly transform the Moon over several hours.

๐Ÿ“… Don't miss this breathtaking celestial eventโ€”one of the deepest partial lunar eclipses of the decade!

๐ŸŒŒ Will you be watching this incredible "almost Blood Moon"? Let us know where you'll be viewing from! ๐ŸŒ•โœจ

Thanks to Supercharged Science and Math Education for this excellent STEM post!

This is a simple science experiment you can start todayโ€ฆ and then let time do the work.

With just salt or sugar, water, and a little patience, kids can grow beautiful crystals that slowly form over days. Itโ€™s a great reminder that not all learning happens instantly โ€” some of the best science takes time.

WHAT TO DO:

Youโ€™ll need:
โ€ข Salt or sugar
โ€ข Warm water
โ€ข A jar or small bowl
โ€ข Food coloring (optional)
โ€ข Small rocks, sponge pieces, or charcoal

Steps:

1. Dissolve ยฝ cup salt or sugar in 3 tablespoons of warm water until no more will dissolve.

2. Pour the solution into a shallow dish with your rocks or sponge pieces.

3. Add a few drops of food coloring if youโ€™d like.

4. Place the dish somewhere it wonโ€™t be disturbed.

In a few days, crystals will start to form. In a week or two, youโ€™ll have a garden of crystals.

No rushing. No fixing. Just watching and noticing! This is real science โ€” observing change over time.

One of the great things about STEM activities is that they donโ€™t have to be expensive. As teachers, finding a collection of STEM activities and challenges that doesnโ€™t require expensive materials or a lot of prep is important.

The author created this collection of 50 Simple STEM Activities using only 15 materials. Most of the materials are supplies you likely already have on hand, such as paper, elastics and scissors.
STEM activities are a great way to develop Science, Technology, Engineering and Math skills. The more of these skills mixed into the activity, the better.
