Due to power not being restored in time to make sure the building is ready to receive Returning Residents, the move in has been rescheduled.

Retuning Resident Move In will be Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Hello Walker Hall Residents,

At 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2023, the power went out at Ranken. At this point, Walker Hall has no power. If power isn't restored by 7:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023, Retuning Resident Move In will be pushed back to Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

I know this is a major inconvenience for everyone's schedule if the power isn't restored in time, but I wanted to make you aware of the situation and given an alternate date for preparation

Roommate Social Media Searches

As students are receiving roommate information, many are searching social media to learn more about their roommates. This is a DANGEROUS practice. You cannot search social media and make assumptions if that person is the one you are looking for just based on the name.

Please be aware that lots of people across the country have the same name. Residential Life had two students last school year with the EXACT same name who happened to be cousins by marriage in high school years. This means they didn’t know each other previously but on social media, one could be mistaken for the other and they looked nothing alike.

Residential Life provides an email address and phone number for contact. If a text isn’t answered within a reasonable amount of time (3 hours)…CALL. Remember, everyone has different schedules right now.

It is the goal of Residential Life have every resident feel safe. It is a concern when there is a possibility a student won’t be safe based on their race, ethnicity, sexual identity or even mental health. Residential Life only has the information provided on the application. That information is used to pair people as much as possible keeping in mind not just compatibility but also their safety.

Hello Returning Residents:

• Move In is Friday, August 25, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. (I’ve extended the time). Due to a busy Saturday with new residents, I will NOT be processing Returning Residents on Saturday.

• Your Ranken ID is now your Room Key! If you have lost or damaged your ID, please get to campus before 2:00 p.m. to pay the $10.00 to the Business Office and bring your receipt to Public Safety to get a new ID .

• I’d like to meet with as many residents as possible at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023 in the Walker Hall Seminar Room. Trust me…you DON’T want to miss this! There will be snacks. LOL!

• The GroupMe and Discord has been disabled. They hadn’t be used so I deleted the accounts.

Lowering Housing Costs

As you go through the financial process to pay for tuition, housing, books and tools please remember there are sometimes ways to lower your housing cost.

Most students don’t like the option but remember the lowest cost room is the Double Unit for $1850.00 per semester. This room type does require a roommate but it will cost less for you to stay on campus. An Automotive Internship Student who will be living on campus for only 8 weeks, your cost can be lowered to $925.00 per semester by selecting a Double Unit.

The lowest cost meal plan for every student is $1,000.00 per semester.
