8th grade students at the Health Sciences Academy are hosting a fundraiser this Saturday, May 9 from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM to support the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks. The event will be held at Mercy Children's Hospital at 1235 E. Cherokee Street. There will be food trucks, games, and a silent auction!

🏆 Clarissa Pohlman is your Teacher of the Year!

Clarissa Pohlman was named 2026-2027 Teacher of the Year for Springfield Public Schools Wednesday, April 29, during Celebrate SPS, an event hosted by Foundation for Springfield Public Schools.

Pohlman has spent the past 13 years as a world language teacher at Pershing K-8 School.

"I'm committed to creating a warm and welcoming classroom where students feel safe, valued and supported", said Pohlman. "Of course, I want my students to build a strong foundation in Spanish, but even more than that, I want them to know they are cared for. My goal is to create an environment that supports both academic growth and personal confidence so they are prepared not just for high school, but for life beyond it."

Pohlman will continue on to compete in the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s regional competition. Winners at the regional level will advance to the Missouri State Teacher of the Year competition.
