Celebrating AAPI Heritage Month 🌸

This month, we’re proud to spotlight Christine Ngo, Financial Analyst with Food & Nutrition Services! 💙

Christine has been with FCPS FNS for over two years and enjoys continuously learning new skills, exploring technology that improves efficiency, and solving complex problems that make a meaningful impact.

For Christine, AAPI Month is both a celebration and a reminder that representation matters. She believes in creating environments where people from all cultures and backgrounds feel valued, respected, supported, and included.

Her message to students:
“Leadership is not defined by a title; it is demonstrated through the willingness to listen, understand, encourage others, and create opportunities for everyone to succeed.”

Thank you, Christine, for sharing your story and for all you do to support our schools and community! ✨

In honor of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we are proud to spotlight the incredible individuals who make a difference in FCPS Food & Nutrition Services every day. 💙💛

Meet Kate Encomienda, Business Operations Assistant at the FNS Central Office!

Kate has been with FCPS FNS for 3.5 years and loves assisting families and school staff with the Free and Reduced Meals (FRM) program, as well as supporting cafeteria teams during Thanksgiving luncheons. 🍽️

For Kate, AAPI Heritage Month is deeply personal:

“AAPI Month means I am able to maintain my Filipino heritage, culture, and language while enjoying the freedom and opportunity that America brings. After moving from the Philippines not so long ago, adjusting to American life was very challenging — from speaking a different language, to winter weather, to finding authentic Asian food. AAPI Month makes me feel and realize that I am part of America now.”

Professionally, Kate says AAPI Month is a reminder that American society is made up of many cultures and backgrounds, all deserving equal opportunity to achieve a better life.

Her message to students:
“AAPIs are an integral part of the United States’ history and society. The beauty and uniqueness of America is that we can achieve what is best for ourselves and our families even though we came from different places around the world.” ✨

Celebrating AAPI Heritage Month 🌸

Meet Mai Diep, Financial Analyst with Fairfax County Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services.

Mai has been with FCPS FNS for 30 years. In her role, she helps ensure financial transactions are properly recorded, manages café funds, prepares financial reports, and supports managers with finance-related tasks across the department.

Her favorite part of the job is helping managers resolve issues and knowing her work has a direct impact on operations and school meal programs each day.

“AAPI Month reminds me of my origin and heritage, and it serves as a reminder of how far my family has come.”

Mai encourages students to be proud of their origins, embrace diversity, work hard, and remember that success is within reach 🌎
