Eid Mubarak to all who observe! Eid al-Adha, or the “Feast of Sacrifice,” is the second of two main holidays celebrated in Islam. Muslims believe that Eid al-Adha signifies the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim, known as Abraham in Christianity and Judaism, to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as ordered by Allah. It focuses on sacrifice, the pilgrimage to Mecca and giving to those less fortunate.

“O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife. Who more than self their country loved and mercy more than life.”

For those who have given all, we thank you, honor you, and remember you. For those who have had to fake external calmness while experiencing big internal emotions - we see you. May you find safe spaces to express your truth.

Wishing you a peaceful Memorial Day. ♥️💙

Good luck on your SOL today, 5th graders!! Please remember …

You are more than a test score.
You are kind, intelligent, unique, caring, and capable.
You are hard workers, problem-solvers, and go-getters.
You have grown so much this year, and we are proud of you.

Do your best, take your time, and believe in yourself.
You are able to do more than you could ever imagine, and you are going to rock this test!

Most importantly, remember that you are valued, appreciated, and loved exactly as you are.

Today our 5th graders participated in a Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE). The MWEE is a partnership between and Fairfax County Park Authority. According to their website, the MWEE “is a learner-centered framework that focuses on investigations into local environmental issues and leads to informed action. The MWEE program includes engaged learning in both an outdoor and indoor classroom. The program is designed to increase environmental literacy by actively engaging students in building knowledge and meaning through hands-on experiences. In these experiences, the core ideas and practices of multiple disciplines are applied to make sense of the relationships between the natural world and society. MWEEs help connect students with their local environment and equip them to make decisions and take actions that contribute to stronger, sustainable and equitable communities.” We are so grateful that our students are able to engage in this learning together!

Check out these amazing ladies! During their final GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math, & Science) meeting, they rose to this challenge: build a sponge boat powered by a motor and propeller to make the boat travel faster across water. Well done!
