So this happened today.

I watched a little girl stack two giant Duplo blocks on top of each other and then stand on top of them. She started to wobble, looked panicked and then she stabilized herself, put her arms up and smiled. She had just accomplished something. She just learned something about balance, about her body and about her capabilities. We so often take away childrenās opportunities to learn to manage risk.
Risk is essential to childhood ā as are scrapes, grazes, falls and panic | Kate Blincoe Children need to be exposed to risky play. For āhelicopter parentsā, this might be difficult - but kids need to learn to manage danger themselves
