7th Grade VSP Science Field Trip at the Springfield Water and Sewer Treatment Plant (Bondi's Island)

Thank you SWSC for sponsoring and educating our students on public works and how we treat our water.

VSP seventh grade. We had Smith College Environmental Science Research Lab members come in to do a Water Chemistry and PH lab. Dying bandanas and socks with natural dyes such as chlorophyll, beet juice, turmeric, and blueberries.

Las escuelas públicas de Springfield reabrirán el 28 de enero tras permanecer cerradas durante dos días debido a la reciente tormenta de nieve. El distrito pide a la comunidad que colabore para garantizar la seguridad de los alumnos limpiando las aceras cercanas a sus hogares y propiedades. Cuando las aceras no están despejadas, los estudiantes se ven obligados a caminar por la calle rodeando los bancos de nieve y las zonas heladas. Las aceras despejadas marcan una diferencia significativa para los niños que se desplazan hacia y desde la escuela.

Los estudiantes que viajan en autobús deben estar preparados para posibles retrasos, ya que los conductores circulan con precaución debido a las condiciones cambiantes de la carretera. Los estudiantes que van andando a la escuela deben revisar las rutas seguras con un adulto, permanecer alerta, evitar caminar por la calle siempre que sea posible y calcular más tiempo para llegar de forma segura.

Se anima a las familias a asegurarse de que los estudiantes vistan ropa adecuada para el frío, incluyendo un abrigo, gorro, guantes y botas.

El distrito también recuerda a los estudiantes que tengan cuidado en los estacionamientos, en las paradas de autobús y al entrar y salir de los edificios escolares, ya que las superficies pueden seguir estando resbaladizas.

Las Escuelas Públicas de Springfield agradecen la colaboración de las familias y de la comunidad en general para ayudar a garantizar un regreso seguro a la escuela para todos los estudiantes.

Springfield Public Schools Reopen Following Winter Storm

Springfield Public Schools will reopen January 28th after being closed for two days due to the recent snowstorm. As schools reopen, student and staff safety remains the top priority. Snow removal efforts have taken place at school buildings, but winter conditions may still impact travel across the city.

The district is asking the community to help keep students safe by clearing sidewalks near homes and properties. When sidewalks are not shoveled, students are often forced to walk in the street around snowbanks and icy areas. Clear walkways make a meaningful difference for children traveling to and from school.

Students who ride the bus should be prepared for possible delays as drivers travel carefully in changing road conditions. Students who walk to school should review safe routes with an adult, remain alert, avoid walking in the street whenever possible, and allow extra time to arrive safely.

Families are encouraged to ensure students are dressed appropriately for cold weather, including a warm coat, hat, gloves, and boots.

The district also reminds students to use caution in parking lots, at bus stops, and while entering and exiting school buildings, as surfaces may still be slippery.

Springfield Public Schools appreciates the partnership of families and the broader community in helping ensure a safe return to school for all students.

Due to weather, schools will be closed Monday, January 26 and Tuesday, January 27, and there will be no after school activities. SPS Student Assignment Services and Central Office will be closed on Monday.
