April is where leadership gets tested.
Not in theory.
Not in planning.
👉 In the day-to-day reality of leading a school when everyone is tired.
Testing pressure is high.
Students are restless.
Teachers are exhausted.
And suddenly… discipline issues start rising.
Here’s what I’ve learned after over three decades in education:
👉 When discipline breaks down, it’s rarely just a student issue.
It’s a consistency issue.
It’s a clarity issue.
It’s a leadership presence issue.
Strong principals don’t wait for things to spiral. They reset.
They:
✔ Re-establish expectations (clearly and consistently)
✔ Increase their visibility across the building
✔ Support teachers in the moment—not after the fact
Because culture isn’t built at the beginning of the year.
👉 It’s built in moments like this.
In The Principal’s Leadership Journey, I talk about this through the SURVIVE and CULTURE frameworks—how leaders maintain momentum when the year gets hard.
If April feels heavy right now, you’re not alone.
But this is also where your leadership makes the biggest difference.
📌 If your school or district is working through discipline challenges, culture, or staff support, this is exactly the work I do through leadership training and coaching.
