Repost from .tamu

Juneteenth is now a federally recognized holiday. It centers on when news of emancipation reached the deepest parts of the South, specifically Texas, on June 19th, 1865. This was two years after the original proclamation was ordered in 1863 and months after the 13th amendment, which banned slavery in the U.S., was ratified. Today, we celebrate the Emancipation of Black Americans and their activism towards equal justice even in today’s world.

AAUW TEP Adoption Program
The Therapeutic Education Program {TEP} is a vital educational school which is not supported by a Parent/teacher organization due to it's clientele. The students who attend TEP are sent to TEP from other schools in Klein ISD due to behavioral or emotional problems. To add to the students' problems many of them are in foster care and reside in residential homes. TEP was established with a major focus to socialize students to normative standards in terms of interpersonal skills with peers and adults, to teach classroom behaviors that promote learning, and to encourage problem solving skills that eschew violent and aggressive behaviors.

We would like to support these hard working teachers . AAUW is planning monthly appreciations for them. If you are interested in helping with any of the following activities, please contact Betsy Calabro at [email protected]

October- Halloween candy in their mailboxes
November- Luncheon
December-Christmas Cookie Party
January- Staff Appreciation Breakfast
February- Valentines small gifts
March- End of year Cake
