To say I am proud of them is an understatement! To see them help each other on and off their horses just makes my heart melt! TRAINING and CERTIFICATION

Number One: Understand the issue. How can you solve a problem when you don’t really know what the problem is? This clinic will give you a comprehensive understanding of your horses’ issues regarding spooking. You will know why they spook, and more importantly, what they are thinking and what triggers their escape mechanisms.
Number Two: Know what to do about it. Once you have an understanding of what is really happening, you will then be trained on how to deal with not only the issues your horse has but other problems in the future with any horse. This clinic will teach you how to build your horse’s confidence in you and most importantly teach the two of you to have trust in each other, and it all begins with understanding.
HAVE A SPOOKEY HORSE? BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THERE IS A CURE
Think of it this way, if Arabs, Thoroughbreds, Warm-bloods, Quarter Horses, Appaloosas, Paints and all kinds of horses can be trained to be police horses, there is no reason your horse can’t be taught the same things. The fact is, training a horse to be “spook proof” is just another training method. Like all other training methods, it requires a working knowledge of techniques used in police training. And, like all training, with enough practice your horse will learn to trust you and “go forward” through whatever you tell them to go through with little or no resistance.

Bill Richey founder and Director of National Mounted Police Services, Inc. is a POST certified mounted police instructor. He was instrumental in creating the mounted units for the city of Duluth, also in Forsyth and Gilmer Counties (Georgia) and training their officers and horses. He worked with Atlanta Police Mounted Unit in preparation for the 1996 Olympics and was also involved in reorganizing the unit. He was the chief instructor for Mobile Mounted Police Mardi Gras School. Mr. Richey has participated in and won or placed in every national mounted police competition he has entered. He has nearly 40 years’ experience as a mounted police officer and trainer with 30 years of Mardi Gras as a mounted police officer, and almost as many as a trainer/instructor. He has spent countless hours training officers and civilians from all over the United States and Canada, as well as their mounts, to perform safely and professionally, from the trail to the show ring to Mardi Gras.

Make Them Carry Their Saddle

A father of a sweet young rider said to me recently that he wished his daughter could just ride more — without having to do the catching, grooming, and saddling. I smiled as I explained something important.

Riding horses isn’t just sitting in a saddle. It’s strength, timing, balance, and awareness. And the truth is, many kids today simply aren’t developing real physical strength unless they are consistently training several times a week.

When a child walks out into the field to catch their horse, they’re doing more than a chore. They’re leaving behind fluorescent lights and screens. They’re breathing fresh air. They’re letting the sun warm their skin. Walking across uneven ground strengthens their legs and core in ways a gym never could.

When they groom their horse — especially when currying — they’re toning their arms and learning to stabilize through their center.

When they carry their saddle, they’re strengthening their arms, chest, and back. It’s functional, meaningful strength.

And beyond the physical benefits, something even deeper happens.

Horses quiet the mind. They reflect our emotions. They feel our heartbeat. They teach presence, empathy, and self-control. After a lesson, riders are physically tired — but mentally calm and centered.

Posting the trot burns calories similar to a slow jog. Riding large, powerful, sometimes unpredictable animals builds resilience and courage. It stretches comfort zones and raises expectations.

Working with horses is so much more than learning how to ride.

So parents — let them carry their saddles. Let them do the hard parts. Don’t take those moments away from them. In the long run, doing it for them weakens them. To grow as riders, they must grow stronger — physically and mentally.

You can support them by lifting them higher, not by removing the weight that builds them.

Last night was the banquet for last year's playdays. I am so proud of all our kiddo's! Thank you to the Ogden family for all your hard work! And all the other adults that help out with the playdays.thank you Kristie Lyons Miller an Jillian Miller Sammi Jenen for all your help at the playdays! Thank you also to the Michelle Sisco and family, Sammi and Eddie with Sooner Stables, Becki Sams and kieth, Anthony Brewster and Alex and Hunter Alex Parsons for getting the horses to and from. We greatly appreciate all you help! We are missing several kiddo's that were not able to make it. Great job everyone! Thank you to all the parents who helped out at the playdays
