What if the rain means more than bad weather? What if a meal reveals who belongs? What if every journey is really a quest?

In Literature & Critical Thinking, students will learn to look beyond the plot and discover the patterns, symbols, archetypes, and deeper ideas woven throughout great literature.

Inspired by themes from How to Read Literature Like a Professor, this class teaches students to:

Recognize symbolism and recurring literary patterns
Understand how journeys, seasons, settings, and characters carry meaning
Discuss literature thoughtfully and support their ideas with evidence
Develop the close-reading and analytical writing skills expected in honors and college-level English courses

Welcome to Book Explorers Club for grades 1st- 3rd!

Book Explorers Club is a welcoming read-together literature class where young readers can grow in confidence while discovering the fun of a shared story.

Students will take turns reading aloud from a chapter book, with plenty of flexibility for different reading levels. Emerging readers may choose a shorter passage, read with a partner, or join in when they feel ready.

After reading, we’ll bring the story to life through games, crafts, creative projects, and discussion. Students will strengthen fluency, listening skills, comprehension, and critical thinking while learning to participate respectfully in a group.

Best of all, there are no reading assignments outside of class!
