Meaningful change starts with educators who are willing to invest their time and energy into doing what's best for students.
In 2022, a group of teachers at Grand Rapids Area Schools ISD 318 chose to spend more than 30 hours in literacy training because they knew their students deserved every opportunity to become successful readers. Together, teachers and school leaders made Structured Literacy their foundation and worked toward changing literacy outcomes for the better.
From Winter 2020 to Winter 2022, literacy proficiency across the district rose by an average of 16% for grades K–5.
One educator shared, "We are not building readers to take a test. We are building skilled readers for life."
To the educators of ISD 318 who gave their time, embraced learning, and changed outcomes for students, thank you for making a lasting difference.

Real change happens when educators insist on changing the story.
At Poway Unified School District in San Diego, teachers and leaders traced assessment gaps back to a common root cause: students lacked foundational phonics and phonemic awareness skills. The district committed to IMSE OG+ curriculum, training nearly 400 teachers across 26 elementary campuses.
Within the 2024–2025 school year alone, kindergarten proficiency rose from 57% to 91%. First grade proficiency climbed from 34% to 84%. Second grade scores increased from 54% to 85%. 97% of students who completed pre- and mid-year testing showed improved literacy scores.
As Elementary Curriculum Teacher on Special Assignment Trenace Sevilla put it, "The OG+ approach has given us a system that empowers teachers."
