📚 For One Week Each Summer, Southampton Belongs to Writers

For 51 summers, the Southampton Writers Conference has brought writers to Long Island's East End to learn from acclaimed authors, strengthen their craft and become part of a vibrant literary community.

This year's conference welcomed aspiring and accomplished writers for five inspiring days of workshops, readings and conversations on the Stony Brook Southampton campus.

A special thank you to our friends at Canio's Books in Sag Harbor for curating the conference bookstore and helping connect readers with remarkable authors.

The literary tradition continues this fall with the launch of Stony Brook Southampton's new part-time MFA in Creative Writing and Literature, designed for residents of Long Island's East End. Classes begin Aug. 24, joining the university's full-time MFA program as another pathway for writers to grow their craft in Southampton.

The Stony Brook Southampton Dialogues bring world-class research to the East End with engaging panels on health, science and technology.

The kick-off event last month featured Stony Brook Medicine experts sharing vital strategies on dementia prevention, sensorimotor integration and independent living for our aging population. Attendees received live health screenings and toured the new Mobile Stroke Unit.

The series continues Tuesday, July 14, at 1 pm at Chancellors Hall with "The Next Wave: Quantum Networking and the Future of Communication." President Andrea Goldsmith will host Quantum Institute Director Eden Figueroa to explore how groundbreaking quantum technologies are poised to transform the way we compute and share information. The event is free and open to the public, with a reception to follow.

A Toast to the Class of 2026 🎓✨

On May 4, Stony Brook Southampton celebrated the Class of 2026 with a graduation brunch, bringing together students, faculty and staff ahead of commencement later this month.

From sharing memories outside the Avram concert hall to taking photos with friends to a delicious lunch catered by The Golden Pear, the gathering recognized the hard work, growth, and community that shaped each student’s journey at our seaside Southampton campus.

Next stop: Commencement at LaValle Stadium at Stony Brook University on May 22.
