This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. 🇺🇸⚓️

As we gather with friends and family on the water this holiday weekend, let’s carry their legacy with us by being responsible, safe, and respectful mariners. 🌊

Pause: Take a moment for the National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 PM local time.

Honor: Fly your ensign with pride and respect.

Protect: Look out for your fellow boaters and keep our waterways safe.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and safe Memorial Day weekend.

⚠️ Stay alert: White sharks are back in Massachusetts waters!

As Memorial Day Weekend approaches, scientists are reminding beachgoers to stay vigilant and be . The first confirmed white shark activity of the season was identified after a gray seal with a fatal shark bite washed ashore on Martha’s Vineyard.

Please note: the shark pictured here is not the shark involved in the recent seal predation incident on Martha’s Vineyard.

While shark sightings are still rare this early in the season, experts expect more white sharks to return to New England’s coastal waters throughout the summer and fall as they hunt seals and other prey.

If you’re heading to the beach:

🦈 Avoid areas where seals or schools of fish are visible
🏖️ Stay close to shore
👀 Be aware of your surroundings in shallow water
📱 Report sightings using the app

The Sharktivity app was created by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and supported by scientists at the New England Aquarium’s Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life. It helps track shark activity and keep the public informed in near real time.

✅ Schedule a free vessel safety check.
✅ Refresh your knowledge on local navigation rules.

Safe boating is fun boating. Let’s make this season the best one yet! 🌊⚓️
