In 2015, at the age of 91, former President Jimmy Carter announced to the world that his cancer had spread. Carter was battling melanoma, a type of skin cancer. It spread to his liver and brain. After four months of intense treatment, the former president revealed he was cancer free. On October 1st, Carter celebrated his 98th birthday. He continues to work in philanthropy and engage in his community.
