Flags for Heroes MKE South Shore Flags for Heroes is a celebration that honors heroes by flying a field of American flags tagged with the names of heroes and their sponsors.

The "hero" tag is sent as a remembrance to the sponsor after the flag display is taken down.

The weather was hot and the ground very dry but the flags are up! Thanks to MATC Criminal Justice students and St. Thomas More, the Rotary Club of Mitchell Field's Flags for Heroes are flying once again. Please plan to attend the Flag Day ceremony outside by the South Milwaukee City Hall gazebo on Monday, June 14 at 6pm.

The Rotary Club of Mitchell Field in Milwaukee thanks Troop 252 Boy Scouts, leaders and parents who showed up in force and allowed us to get the flags up in just 40 minutes. Helpers ranged from Boy-Scout-age youth, like Bradley, to Rotarian Roger Nelson who is 91.

The tags go from south to north along 15th Avenue. Names of the heroes appear in the same order as the list. The flags will fly from from June 9-23. The formal ceremony to recognize the heroes is part of the Flag Day celebration at South Milwaukee City Hall on Friday, June 14 at 6 pm by the gazebo.

Flags for Heroes went up yesterday at the South Milwaukee City Hall and Senior Center. The Rotary Club of Mitchell Field in Milwaukee thanks the City of South Milwaukee for partnering with us on this event which proudly honors heroes.

Flags are still available until June 13 by calling Rotarian Sue at 937-390-3306.

There will be two locations and two dates for Flags for Heroes in 2019.

Oak Creek over Memorial Day (from May 16-29) in front of the Oak Creek Community Center on Howell Avenue. A formal recognition ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 23 at 5:30pm.

South Milwaukee over Flag Day (from June 10-23). Flags will be located in front of City Hall on 15th Avenue, down the sidewalk by the Senior Center and into the back by the gazebo. The recognition ceremony will take place at 6pm on Flag Day by the gazebo.
