If your child argues about everything… this might be why.

Strong-willed kids often:
• know exactly what they want
• advocate loudly for it
• don’t back down
• question rules
• and don’t care much about pleasing others

Which can make parenting them feel exhausting.

But here’s the part many parents don’t see yet:

The traits that make strong-willed kids difficult when they’re young often become powerful strengths later in life.

Confidence.
Independence.
Resilience.
The ability to stand up for themselves.

In this week’s article I share the long-game perspective that can completely change how you see your strong-willed child.

Strong-Willed Kids: Why the Parenting Long Game Matters

If you're raising one of these kids, I see you. ❤️

You might have a strong-willed child if…

They question every rule.
They argue long after most kids would give up.
They react strongly when they feel controlled.
And once they dig in… they are not backing down.

It can look like defiance....

But many of the kids we label as “defiant” are actually strong-willed , and their brains react very differently to pressure and control.

Which means the parenting strategies that work for other kids often turn into bigger battles with them.

Understanding this difference can completely change how you see your child’s behavior.

In this week’s article, I break down what’s really happening with strong-willed kids and why parenting them can feel so exhausting.

If you’ve ever thought “Why does everything turn into a battle?” this one might resonate.

Most parents want their kids to feel confident.

So when our kids are struggling, we naturally jump in with encouragement:
“You’re amazing.”
“You’re so smart.”
“You can do it.”

But sometimes those words don’t actually build the kind of self-esteem we’re hoping for. In fact, the way we try to boost confidence can sometimes make kids rely more on outside reassurance instead of trusting themselves.

The good news?
A small shift in what we say can make a huge difference.

In this week’s article, I share one of the most powerful phrases parents can use to help kids build real confidence and self-trust.

Curious what it is?

I’d also love to know... what’s something your parents said to you growing up that stuck with you?

Self-esteem isn’t built through praise. Discover what to say, what to avoid, and how everyday language builds real confidence in kids.
