We support the growing, purchasing, and educating about more sustainable food on campus and in the community. What is "real food" you might ask? We define "real food" as food which is sustainable, ecologically sound, local and humane. Mount Holyoke students really care about our impact and understand that all choices are political choices, so this campaign really ties into our values as a community. Our current campaign is called the Real Food Challenge, which is a national initiative uniting students for a more just and sustainable food system. We are gathering signatures to present to President Pasquerella, asking her to sign a commitment for Mount Holyoke to serve at least 40% real food by 2020. Currently, colleges around the country spend 5 billion dollars a year on food using OUR tuition. If we’re able to allocate some of that colossal amount to food that is not only is good for us but the local economy and the environment, we will have the power to change the food industry in the United States!
