It’s Friday of the first week of school & I finally had a minute to give you a little classroom tour. 🍎✏️

Classes have been in full swing, I’ve been figuring out my new groups of kids, getting back into the routine & remembering what it feels like to live my life according to a bell again. 😂

So before this room gets any more lived-in than it already is… come take a look around.

This is where I’ll spend a pretty big chunk of my days this year — teaching Health, having conversations, probably repeating directions I literally just gave 🤣 & hopefully creating a space where my students feel comfortable being themselves.

One week down. A whole school year to go. 🙌🏼

10 Minutes Tonight = A Much Better Tomorrow

I know myself well enough to know that if I don’t take 10 minutes the night before to get my food together, tomorrow-me is going to make some questionable decisions. 😂

So this is what setting myself up for a school day looks like.

Breakfast ready.
Morning snack packed.
Lunch packed.
Afternoon snack packed.
Protein, carbs, fruits & veggies worked in throughout the day.

Nothing about it is accidental. It’s thoughtful & intentional because I know exactly what happens when I tell myself, “I’ll figure it out tomorrow.”

Tomorrow comes & suddenly I’m…

☕ surviving on caffeine until I realize I’m starving
🍫 wandering into the faculty lounge looking for whatever happens to be there
🥨 considering the vending machine a perfectly reasonable lunch option
😵‍💫 getting to the afternoon absolutely ravenous
🏠 coming home ready to eat everything I can get my hands on
🤦‍♀️ wondering why I feel like crap when I barely ate anything substantial all day

And none of that is because I “lack willpower.”

I simply didn’t make the decision ahead of time.

For me, those extra 10 minutes at night make the next day SO much easier. I don’t have to think about what I’m going to eat while I’m trying to teach, answer questions, live by the bell & keep up with everything else happening during a school day.

It’s already handled.

And that little bit of preparation makes it much easier for me to eat in a way that supports my energy, my workouts & my goals without making food another damn thing I have to think about.

Also…the Legion Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough protein bars have officially earned a spot in the lunch rotation. 20g of protein & they’re really freaking good. 😋

School starts back up this week, which means my time is about to become a whole lot more precious.

So when I walk into the gym, I’m not interested in wasting it doing random exercises simply because I saw someone else doing them.

My workouts are super intentional.

Right now I lift 4 days a week — 2 upper & 2 lower. I know what I’m there to work on, what I did last time & what I want to improve.

Can I add a little weight?
Get another rep?
Improve my form?
Feel stronger doing something that challenged me before?

There’s something pretty damn satisfying about walking into a workout knowing I get another chance to test myself.

But intentional doesn’t mean rigid.

If an appointment comes up, work gets crazy, I’m tired or I’m simply not feeling great, I don’t beat myself up over a missed workout. I pick up with the next one & keep going.

The exercises I choose are intentional too.

Past injuries matter. Limitations matter. What feels good in MY body matters. & what I actually enjoy doing matters.

If something hurts, doesn’t feel right or I absolutely hate doing it, I’m not building my program around it. There are plenty of other ways to train.

& cardio?

These days, most of mine comes from WALKING.

Regular walks. Faster-paced walks. Incline walks when I want to get my heart rate up.

Walking is SO underrated. Cardio doesn’t have to mean running, spending forever on an elliptical or crushing yourself on a bike.

I’m not training for a race.

I’m training to be strong, capable & fit for the life I actually live.

At 58, I want my workouts to challenge me enough to keep progressing while still being something I can realistically do week after week, year after year.

Purposeful. Challenging. Flexible. Sustainable.

That’s the kind of consistency I’m after. 💪🏼

What does your workout routine look like right now?

I actually prefer working out later in the day.

Starting next week, though, “later in the day” means heading to the gym after a full day of teaching. 🍎

And anyone who spends their workday on their feet, talking, thinking, answering questions & being mentally ON knows that 3:30 PM feeling.

I still want to train.

My brain, however, may have other plans. 😂

That’s usually when a little caffeine sounds pretty damn good…but at 58 & in menopause, I’ve learned there are some things I’m no longer willing to mess with.

Sleep is one of them. 😴

Menopause has already made that relationship complicated enough. 🙄

So taking a caffeinated pre-workout at 3:30 or 4:00 in the afternoon just to get myself through the gym? Probably not my best move.

That’s where Legion Pulse Stim-Free has been fitting into my routine lately. 💪🏼

I still get my pre-workout ritual & support for focus, endurance & training performance — without adding caffeine late in my day.

Because these days I’m not only thinking about the workout.

I’m thinking about the whole picture. 🫶🏼

How I train.
How I recover.
How I sleep.
How I feel the next day.
& whether what I’m doing actually fits into my REAL life.

Next week will be the true test — teaching all day, afternoon workouts & bedtime all peacefully coexisting. 😂🤞🏼

If you train later in the day & don’t want the caffeine, I’ve been using Legion Pulse Stim-Free in Fruit Punch.

A little peek at what I’ve been eating lately as summer winds down & I head back into teacher mode.

As a nutrition coach, I don’t eat the same “perfect” meals every day & I definitely don’t believe healthy eating needs to look like chicken, broccoli & rice on repeat.

I like variety.

There are balanced breakfasts with protein, carbs, fruit & fat. Adult lunchable-style lunches. Snack plates. Bowls made from whatever we have hanging around in the fridge. Leftovers getting repurposed into something completely different.

And when it comes to dinner, I have to give credit where credit is due… my husband does most of the cooking. 🙌 Thank God. 😂

Could I cook? Absolutely.
Do I enjoy letting him do it? Also absolutely.

There’s plenty of protein, fruits, veggies, carbs & fats around here.

There’s also ice cream.
Potato chips.
And the occasional b**r. 🍺

Because all of those things can exist in the same diet.

Nutrition isn’t about making every single food choice the “healthiest” possible choice. It’s about what you’re doing most of the time & finding a way of eating that works with your actual life.

You’ll also spot a little Legion mixed into my camera roll. Their protein powder & bars are easy ways for me to bump up my protein when I need it.

If you want to try Legion, my code LoraH gets new customers BOGO 50% off & returning customers 10% cash back. A pretty sweet deal! 👏🏼

Tomorrow I officially trade summer mode for teacher mode. 🍎 Let’s see what the camera roll looks like a few weeks from now. 😂
