Mrs. Goulet Receives Golden Apple Award; MMS Announces New Mattering Cabin
This week, Marshwood Middle School Principal Christine Goulet was honored with the Golden Apple Award as a Community Health Champion by Choose To Be Healthy and the Youth Resiliency Coalition.

In presenting the award, Sally Manninen, Director of Community Health, recognized Mrs. Goulet's unwavering commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, and student-centered school culture. Manninen noted that Mrs. Goulet leads Marshwood Middle School with compassion, integrity, and the belief that every student deserves to feel seen, heard, valued, and supported.

Through her leadership, Mrs. Goulet has helped foster a school climate built on connection, belonging, and student well-being. This year, that commitment was reflected in the school's first Wellness Summit, which brought students together to learn about physical, social, and emotional wellness and served as a launch point for next year's theme: Every Hawk Matters.

As part of this continued focus on student belonging and mattering, Marshwood Middle School is also excited to announce the addition of a new Mattering Cabin, generously donated through a partnership between Maine Youth Thriving and Maine Cabin Masters.

The Mattering Cabin will provide a welcoming space where students can connect with peers and trusted adults, reflect, build relationships, and access support when needed. The project aligns closely with the school's commitment to ensuring that every student feels connected to the Marshwood community and knows that they matter.

We are incredibly grateful to Maine Youth Thriving and Maine Cabin Masters for their generosity and partnership. Their support will help create meaningful opportunities for students to strengthen relationships, build resilience, and experience a greater sense of belonging.

Congratulations to Mrs. Goulet on this well-deserved recognition and thank you for your leadership in helping make Marshwood Middle School a place where every Hawk truly matters.

Walk the Halls 2026 🏫 💜

It was so special to watch our seniors walk the halls at RGS, EES, CES, GWS, and MMS today! Seniors got to reunite with their teachers and received lots of applause, hugs, and support from current elementary and middle school students.

THANK YOU to our district staff, families, coaches and community members for your thoughtful messages to our graduating seniors through our “Senior Sendoff” letter initiative this year 💗 ✉️

An additional shoutout to our 3rd grade students at EES & Central, our 5th grade students at Great Works, and 8th graders at MMS for writing letters full of motivation and advice for the future! ✏️

Students got to read their letters when they picked up their caps and gowns before marching practice today. We would have taken an “after” photo…but we were too teary-eyed! 🥲

Today, school counselors took a group of students to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard! Students got special security clearance to learn more about insulation/HVAC shop, the Mold Loft, and Non-Destructive Testing unit. Students also got to have a personal conversation with the Shipyard Commander about his experience in military service and the many benefits of working at PNSY. Here are some fun facts we learned:

• Every submarine has an ice cream or snow cone machine on board 🍦
• PNSY has state-of-the-art 3D laser scanners that has accuracy up to 1 ten-thousandths of an inch! 📏
• Non-Destructive Testing workers have an x-ray machine that ensures each welded part is formed correctly 🩻
• The SMART scholarship program provides full tuition, annual stipends, and book/health allowances to students pursuing STEM degrees that commit to full-time employment with the Department of Defense after graduation! 🧑‍🎓

We had a blast welcoming the CLASS OF 2030 to Step Up Day this afternoon! 💜 Future and current MHS students got to walk through their schedules for next year and meet their teachers! Shoutout to our student ambassadors for all their help in supporting future 9th graders in navigating the halls of MHS. We look forward to seeing you again on 8/31 for New Student Orientation!

Another special thank you to Mrs. Edson for presenting to incoming freshmen today, and to Mrs. Lontine for providing info sessions for our future Career Tech students!

THANK YOU to Soren at for tabling at lunch today for Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈 Students were able to get resources and asked great questions about being an ally to their LGBTQ+ peers.

The School Counseling Department is partnering with OUT Maine to create a welcoming space for students and staff to connect, learn, and celebrate inclusion and belonging.

Stop by during lunch to:

• Learn about resources and support
• Participate in interactive activities
• Start conversations and ask questions
• Show support for the LGBTQ+ community and allies
