FAMILY STORYTIME & BIKE SAFETY EVENT

Enjoy a fun family evening celebrating bike safety, outdoor reading, and community at the new StoryWalk® installation featuring local author Ellen Mayer’s Yellow, Red, Green—GO!. Families can enjoy snacks, meet other local parents, explore a kid-friendly traffic garden, and pick up biking tips for young riders. Best for ages 5 and under.

The next School Committee meeting is this Monday, May 18th. Please take a moment to let the School Committee know that the proposed budget needs more interventionists and special ed teachers to meet the needs of our students.

We had an amazing time at our family STEAM night this week! Thank you to the many groups that came out to share activities and learning with our school community - including Playful Engineers, Buildwave, EnJinn Arts, Somerville High's robotics team, Science Club for Girls, Somerville Public Library (MA) and Somerville Climate Ambassadors! Plus National Parent Teacher Association for providing the funding and the many parent and community volunteers who made the night run smoothly. What a great night!

Our Family STEAM night is tomorrow! We have great activities and community tables planned - come visualize DNA, play with electric circuit art, engineer a chain reaction, co-create electronic music, play math-based games and much more. Also featuring the recently-returned from the World Championship SHS robotics team and their robot SWISH! Plus free food and raffle prizes. Hope to see you there!

LET'S GET SOME LEMONADE!

As a part of supporting the 7th grade Duck Boat field trip our Student Leadership Team will be hosting a few Lemonade stands over the next couple weeks with the hopes of raising money they can put towards the trip for their class. The 7th grade Student Leaders have worked over the last 2 weeks afterschool to create posters, teams, and breaking down logistics in hopes to support their class.

Their first stand will be held TODAY afterschool. They will be in up in 2 locations, one stand in the front of the school and another in the back by the kindergarten playground. Today's Lemonade will be served from Wellsley Organic Lemonade, However the students will be making Lemonade themselves for Friday's stand.

Please come out and support the 7th graders even with just a motivational "good job" and/or "good luck".

We have new trees at ESCS! Groundwork Somerville and the Green Team Action Crew, in collaboration with the City of Somerville, planted 13 trees around East this week. This includes two new peach trees for our school garden! Thanks Groundwork for making our school grounds a little greener for Earth Day!

The Nike store in Assembly Row is inviting ESCS students to participate in a free youth running event on:

⏰ 9:00–11:00 AM
📍 Sylvester Baxter Riverfront Park (next to the Nike store)

The event will include:
Warm-ups and movement activities
A fun run (up to 2 miles)
Music, food trucks, and giveaways
This event is geared toward ages 11–14, but all youth are welcome.
