Some moments mean more than words can really say. 💛

We feel incredibly honored that the Reed family invited us to be part of such a special day as Hunter officially became part of their family.

Hunter chose yellow for the day because, to him, yellow means happy, and honestly, that could not have been more perfect.

We are so grateful that RuCo gets to be more than just a place where kids come to learn. We get to know them, cheer for them, watch them grow, and sometimes be invited into moments we will never forget.

Hunter, we are so proud of you and so happy for you. Thank you, Reed family, for allowing us to share in such a beautiful day. This one will always hold a special place in our hearts. 💛

This is what beginning literacy looks like at RuCo!

We follow the University of Florida Literacy Institute sequence and introduce letters in small groups, starting with A, M, S, T, then P, F, I, N.

First, students learn the letter name and sound. Then we practice putting those sounds together to read simple words. Once they are comfortable with that, we use those same words and sound patterns in short books and connected text so reading begins to feel meaningful and successful.

We build one step at a time, and we never rush the process. The student guides the pace, and RuCo is there to teach, support, and celebrate the growth along the way!

This is the reason!

I was invited to participate in a Publisher Spotlight Round Table and share what I see every day working with students from beginning readers through high school.

My focus: kids don’t just need more books - they need the right doorway into reading.

Sometimes that means decodable text, more accessible vocabulary, high-interest topics, or simply meeting a student where they are so they can actually access the learning.

We don’t have to lower expectations. We just have to give kids the tools and support they need to reach them.

Pretty cool getting to bring the teacher/tutor perspective to the table today. 📚❤️

If I could encourage parents to do one simple thing, it would be this…

Read with your kids. Intentionally.

Not for homework.
Not because a teacher said so.
Just because they’re yours.

Some of my favorite childhood memories are of being read to, and I want that for every child.

When you read together, you’re doing more than building reading skills. You’re growing vocabulary, sparking imagination, building background knowledge, and creating space for natural conversation.

The research is clear: reading together strengthens reading comprehension, language development, and a lifelong love of learning. But as a teacher, I can tell you this…

The connection matters just as much.

Ten or twenty minutes on the couch with a good book can become a memory they carry forever.

The dishes can wait.
The laundry will still be there.
But your child won’t always be this little.

Read the extra chapter. Do the funny voices. Laugh together. Ask questions. Make the memory.

Those moments are never wasted.
