Today, we’re celebrating Dr. Ellen Ochoa for National Hispanic Heritage Month!

In 1993, Dr. Ochoa became the first Hispanic woman to travel to space. As an engineer and astronaut, she showed what curiosity, hard work, and courage can make possible.

At Novus SMART Academy, we want every scholar to see that their dreams can take them anywhere, even beyond the stars! ✨

🌟 National Hispanic Heritage Month Spotlight: Sylvia Mendez

Today, Novus SMART Academy celebrates Sylvia Mendez, a civil rights advocate who helped open the doors to equal educational opportunities for children.

When Sylvia was denied admission to a California school because of her Mexican heritage, her family took action. Their landmark case, Mendez v. Westminster, helped end school segregation in California and paved the way for greater educational access across the country.

Sylvia’s story reminds our scholars that courage, determination, and using your voice can help change the world.

Come back next week as we celebrate another inspiring leader and learn about their lasting contributions!
