Iowa’s Building Trades are deeply disappointed.
IBEW Brother Senator Tom Townsend offered an amendment to SF 2508 that would have required developers receiving expanded tax incentives for mega projects to enter into Project Labor Agreements.
PLAs help ensure these taxpayer-supported projects are built with fair wages, good benefits, strong safety standards, and a skilled workforce.
Unfortunately, the amendment was voted down.
If Iowa is going to provide major tax incentives to attract billion-dollar projects, Iowa’s workers should benefit too.
Remember who stood with working people — and who didn’t — on November 3rd.
Every name in red below voted "Nay" on IBEW Brother Senator Tom Townsend's amendment to the bill expanding tax incentives for a mega project. Remember this on November 3rd, Siblings.
Amendment read as follows:
NEW SUBSECTION. 22A. "Project labor agreement" means a comprehensive pre-hire collective bargaining agreement that is negotiated between an eligible business and an appropriate labor organization and that sets out the basic terms and working conditions for that project.
