What are you NOT doing in your life because you don’t yet feel “ready”? This past weekend, I ran my first 5k in YEARS! I hadn't completed my training plan and didn't think I was ready.

I decided to do it anyway for these two reasons:

1. Being "ready" is not a requirement. Neither is confidence. Confidence is a RESULT of what you do, not a pre-requisite for going after what you want.

2. I've never felt truly "ready" when pursuing the goals I feel proud of accomplishing. Why would I expect to start feeling "ready" to do the things that scare me now?

Go for what scares you today and this week. Feeling "ready" isn't necessary. The only requirement is that you show up.

You are ready to do that hard thing too!

I ran my hardest run of my 5K training journey and didn't think I could do it. But of course I could. I was ready!!

What are you thinking that you're not ready for yet?

Chances are, you might be spending more time resisting it than doing it. I know I was.

Let's get out and do those hard things! We're so ready! 💪

Courage is doing what needs to get done even when you're afraid.
What were you afraid to do this week that you did anyway? Let's celebrate! I did four scary things:

*Got back to work after a vacation (that can be jarring)
*Prepared a talk I'll soon be giving to my biggest audience yet (1,000+ people!)
*Coached my clients with complete presence (not always easy)
*Kept training for my first 5k in YEARS

What felt scary for you this week that you went ahead and did anyway?

I'm off to run again. Why is it so easy to take action consistently on something I haven’t done for twenty years? I have three theories:

1. I acted on the "nudge", meaning, I didn't even give my brain time to think why I should or shouldn't go on a run. I just did it.

2. I ran and then created my running plan (not the other way around).

3. I kept my plan so simple, it would be hard to fail at it. I call it my "three for thirty" - 3 days a week for 30 minutes.

Where are you struggling to take action?

Learn more about my three theories and ways to apply them in your life in the latest edition of The Joyful Career newsletter (link in comments)!

To celebrate our 7-year wedding anniversary, my husband and I took white-water kayaking classes last weekend. Our instructor, Jake, taught us two life-saving lessons on the river:

1. How not to panic when your kayak flips over and you're suddenly underwater inside a kayak with water up your nose (it was freaky!)

2. How to find and enter an "eddy" in a river - a section of water that is going opposite of the main river current so you can rest

I love how these concepts connect to real life. How often do we panic when something goes wrong? And how often do we allow our thoughts and emotions to take control (just like a gushing river current) leading us to say or do something we'll regret?

Here's how I think these two river lessons can help us in real life:

1. Tell yourself "I'm OK": As soon as I flipped in my kayak, I learned to lean forward, and tap my kayak three times telling myself "I'm OK". This simple step allowed my brain to focus on what I needed to do next: find the tab of the kayak skirt, pull it off, and get out of that heavy kayak so I could surface and breathe.

2. Find the eddy: Next time your thoughts and emotions have taken over and you find yourself heading in a direction you don't like (like saying something mean to someone you love), find the eddy! In other words, PAUSE. Take a breath, step away, and maybe even close your eyes for a few seconds. Interrupt the gushing current by finding a safe space to regroup.

Try it out! Next time something goes wrong, tell yourself "I'm OK" three times to refocus your brain. And next time you feel hijacked by your emotions and thoughts, "find the eddy".

(Note: This photo was during our Level 1 class on a lake. The next day, Level 2, was on a gushing river - a totally different, adrenaline-filled experience!)

I'm super excited about this one! On the latest episode of "Successful: The Podcast", I interview my friend and fellow life coach, Sarah Leslie. We talked about what "Living Intentionally" means. Check it out!
https://anchor.fm/.../12-Living-Intentionally-with-Sarah...

It's simple: living with intention is about examining your beliefs, choosing the ones that support who you want to be, and taking action based on those beliefs to build the life you want.

In this episode, I asked Sarah all kinds of questions about how she did just that, like how she left her job as a therapist to become a life coach, how she's living her purpose, and how she's redefined success to build her dream life on her own terms.

My co-host, Natalie Burk, and I are super excited about this episode - so many wonderful takeaways and stories about how we can lead happier, more fulfilling lives. Listen via the link below:

I'm thrilled to share that "Successful: The Podcast" is now live! This has been a deeply personal project with my wonderful friend Natalie Burk. As two career-driven women, we've been questioning the traditional view of success in our careers (and lives), realizing that it is up to us to define and pursue success in a way that feels aligned and honest to who we are.

Every week, we'll be sharing our stories and the stories of other women (who play the roles of entrepreneurs, corporate professionals, coaches, students, actors, mothers, and many others!) who are redefining and pursuing success on their own terms.

You can check out our first two episodes here: https://anchor.fm/successfulthepodcast/episodes/Episode-01-Pilot---Successful-is-a-Loaded-Word-e1fcklt/a-a7hkpjn

My heart is super full. Last night, we wrapped up an amazing 7-week experience with the Summer 2021 Positive Intelligence pod - a group of 5 smart, inspiring career-driven women who came together to ditch the stress and elevate their joy at work and in life. I'm so grateful to this group and thrilled to launch the next one in two weeks. If you'd like to explore joining us, message me directly. I'm looking for ONE more woman to complete the pod!

****

Over the past seven weeks, an amazing group of five diverse career-driven women met every week to strengthen their mental fitness. Mental fitness is the measure of how much we think, feel, and act with calm, confidence, joy, and other positive emotions, versus how much we allow our "saboteurs" to interfere. Saboteurs, like guilt, stress, and overwhelm destroy our ability to sustain high performance and be our happiest selves at home and at work.

By leveraging the Positive Intelligence framework and applying my coaching expertise, pod members:

- Learned to notice and weaken their inner judge and saboteurs, such as detrimental desires to please others, be perfect, and overachieve

- Built self-command over their brains through quick, practical techniques to calm and conquer the mind, especially when under stress

- Learned how to trigger sage emotions like curiosity and empathy, while expanding their ability to be innovative, decisive, and purpose-driven leaders

- Shared a safe and supportive community with one another to be REAL and talk about what it means to build our careers without sacrificing the "essence" that makes us, US!

****

I am deeply grateful to all the women who joined my first pod and those who already said "yes" to the next one! My vision is to expand this amazing experience to more and more women so we can stop living with fear, live in the NOW, and make the impact we desire to make on the world.

I can't wait to see YOU in one of my upcoming pods. Join me here for the next one (or message me directly): https://lnkd.in/eyhhx9ft

Over the past six weeks, I've been leading the first cohort of my Positive Intelligence (PQ) coaching group for career-driven women. It's been a deeply moving and impactful journey full of growth and community.

Leveraging the PQ framework and my coaching, we're building "mental fitness" - strengthening our brain's ability to intercept and diffuse anxiety, overwhelm, guilt, and other negative emotions, while expanding our ability to respond to challenges with curiosity, decisive leadership, and empathy.

During week #6 of the program, our focus is on innovation! We are building our capacity as leaders to invent new solutions and challenge long-held assumptions. We are practicing techniques to build on each others' ideas while delaying judgment. How often do we shut down our ideas focusing on what won't work, instead of exploring what could? When we shift our minds to look for what CAN work, not only do we allow our ideas to grow, but we also create safety for others to ideate with us.

The October cohort of the next PQ pod is filling up quickly! In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, in this pod, we'll be exploring how our Latin heritage influences our mental fitness, including the role of cultural values that build us up and limiting beliefs that sabotage us. Join me for this powerful and empowering experience. Sign up by September 24th here: https://lnkd.in/eyhhx9ft
