Let’s not risk being left to our own strength !

Helaman 4:13

13 And because of this their great wickedness, and their boastings in their own strength, they were left in their own strength;

Nephite dissenters and the Lamanites join forces and take the land of Zarahemla—The Nephites’ defeats come because of their wickedness—The Church dwindles, and the people become weak like the Lamanites. About 38–30 B.C.

I urge you to take steps to be temporally prepared. But I am even more concerned about your spiritual and emotional preparation.

President Nelson teaches that we should prepare temporally, spiritually, and emotionally for the future.

Thinking about emergency situations can feel frightening and overwhelming, but we are promised “If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear” (Doctrine and Covenants 38:30). Preparing for emergencies can help us feel more secure and can help us stay safe when a disaster or unexpected event occurs.

Preparation is necessary in many areas, including financial, home storage and food production, emotional preparedness, and emergency planning. If we have these plans in place, we can be prepared when challenges occur.

"When you prepare prior to an emergency, you will have greater peace of mind. Because you are prepared, you will have more choices available to you as you work to adapt to changing circumstances. As we strive to follow the Lord’s counsel to prepare, we are entitled to the protection and peace that comes from obedience."

Now what about those who would plunder and break in and take that which we have stored for our families’ needs? Don’t give this one more idle thought. There is a God in heaven whom we have obeyed. Do you suppose he would abandon those who have kept his commandments? He said, “If ye are prepared, ye need not fear.” (D&C 38:30.) Prepare, O men of Zion, and fear not. Let Zion put on her beautiful garments. Let us put on the full armor of God. Let us be pure in heart, love mercy, be just, and stand in holy places.

Brethren of the priesthood, sisters of the Relief Society, President Henry D. Moyle suggested that when someone speaks we ought to get three things out of the message. First and least important (but still very important), we ought to get what is said. Second, and more important, we ought to have a s...

I should like to address a few remarks to those who ask, “Do I share with my neighbors who have not followed the counsel? And what about the nonmembers who do not have a year’s supply? Do we have to share with them?” No, we don’t have to share—we get to share! Let us not be concerned about silly thoughts of whether we would share or not. Of course we would share! What would Jesus do? I could not possibly eat food and see my neighbors starving. And if you starve to death after sharing, “greater love hath no man than this …” (John 15:13.)

This morning I would like to discuss food storage… Start by taking an inventory—take a physical count of all of your reserves. This would be a great family home evening project… We need to know where we are. Every family should take an inventory—get all the facts.

Do you have an emergency plan for your family?

Your family may not be together when a disaster strikes so it is important to plan in advance: how you will get to a safe place; how you will contact one another; how you will get back together; and what you will do in different situations. Further, few things build faith more than does regular immersion in the Book of Mormon. No other book testifies of Jesus Christ with such power and clarity. Its prophets, as inspired by the Lord, saw our day and selected the doctrine and truths that would help us most. The Book of Mormon is our latter-day survival guide.

President Nelson teaches that we should prepare temporally, spiritually, and emotionally for the future.
