Let me give you a hint. No teacher is working all day for nothing.

Instead of asking, "Do you have homework?"
Ask, "Show me a problem you worked on today."

For younger children ask, "Teach me what the teacher taught today."

Closed ended question yields a closed ended answer. Encourage engagement with action words such as:

Show me
Explain to me

Reach out to the teacher with intent. Ask questions like is there homework this week and what are you covering.

This session is about multiplication using arrays and skip counting.

As a middle school teacher, I had to learn that littles need more to retain; however, I had to step back to allow them to discover.

By the end of the session, she was skip-counting, memorizing, and using counting bears to answer her facts.

The goal was for this student to process the facts and answer as many as she could using all the tools she had in her own math toolbox.
