Hi! I’m Flyer II, Loyola College Prep’s mascot-in-training.

I’m just a beagle trying to live up to one very famous cartoon dog. I think I'm on the right track. 🐾

Flight Log #2:
Every Great Pilot Starts with One Step

Hello again, Flyer Family!

Flight school continues, and today I faced one of my biggest challenges yet...

Stairs.

Now before you laugh, have you seen some of these things? Some are metal. Some are concrete. Some have tiny little holes that make you wonder if your paws might disappear into another dimension.

As a professional beagle, I believe it's perfectly reasonable to question suspicious architecture.

The first set?
Nope.

The second set?
Still nope.

I looked at my teacher as if to say, "I'm pretty sure we can just fly."

He smiled, gave me a little encouragement, and reminded me we were going to figure it out together.

So I took one step.

Then another.

And before I knew it...I was marching up and down every kind of staircase the airport could throw at me.

Turns out the scariest part wasn't the stairs.
It was believing I could do it.

The whole adventure only took about fifteen minutes, but I learned a lesson I'll never forget: courage doesn't mean you're never afraid. It just means you keep moving even when your tail isn't quite sure.

The airport was full of distractions, too. Rolling suitcases. Busy travelers. New smells. Excited children. Important-looking people walking very, very fast. I met all kinds of wonderful humans, and every single one wanted to say hello.

As tempting as it was to stop and introduce myself to everyone (it's practically my calling), I had another job to do.

Stay beside my teacher.
Listen.
Focus.

I'm proud to report I stayed right at his side, followed my commands, and earned lots of praise. Every successful walk brings me one step closer to becoming the calm, confident therapy dog Loyola deserves.

It's funny. Humans think they're teaching me how to walk through airports.

But I think they're really teaching me how to help people.

Because someday a student might feel just like I did at the bottom of those stairs nervous, uncertain, wondering if they can make it to the top.

When that day comes, maybe all they'll need is a friendly beagle sitting beside them, reminding them to take one step at a time.

Until next time...
This is Flyer II signing off from flight school.
Clear skies.
Steady paws.

And remember...
Even future Flying Aces have to learn the stairs before they earn their wings.

Flight Log #1:
Grounded in Florida...But Dreaming of Takeoff

Hello, Flyer Family!

It's me, Flyer II. Professional ear flopper. Future mascot. Current student. Aspiring therapy dog. Full-time bird observer.

Right now, I'm stationed in sunny Florida at A Dog's Best Friend. Some people say I'm "in training." I prefer to think of it as attending the world's most important aviation academy...except my classroom has more balls than textbooks.

You see, being Loyola's mascot and therapy dog isn't just about looking adorable in pictures (although I am naturally gifted in that department). It's about being there when someone needs a smile after a tough test, a comforting nuzzle after a rough day, or an enthusiastic tail wag after a big win.

That's the therapy dog part.

Apparently, I have to learn things like patience.
I'm not entirely convinced patience is necessary when there are birds involved, but my instructors seem pretty confident.

Every day I practice commands, good manners, walking politely on a leash, staying calm around distractions, and meeting lots of new people. It's harder than it sounds. Especially when someone walks by carrying bacon.

I have also discovered that "Leave it" is the most confusing phrase humans have ever invented.

Leave what exactly?
The ball?
The treat?
The fascinating leaf?
The imaginary enemy only I can see?
So many questions.

Between lessons, I imagine what life will be like back at Loyola. I picture greeting students every morning, making surprise visits to classrooms, cheering at football games, posing for yearbook photos, and maybe…just maybe…becoming the first beagle ever elected Homecoming King.
(I've been told mascots can't run for office. I believe that's simply a lack of imagination.)

Sometimes I lie under a shady tree and dream about flying. I know beagles aren't exactly built for aviation, but neither was Snoopy, and he managed to become a World War I Flying Ace from the roof of his doghouse.
If he can dogfight the Red Baron, surely I can master "Stay."

Every day brings me one paw closer to my mission.
Not just to wear the Loyola blue.
Not just to lead cheers.
But to be the friend who always has time to listen, never judges, and reminds everyone that tomorrow is another chance to chase your dreams...or at least chase a bird.

Until next time, this is Flyer II signing off from sunny Florida.

My wings may still be imaginary...
…but my heart is already soaring toward Loyola.
Blue skies, wagging tails, and see you soon!
