Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve

Our Ag kids got some hands on learning in as the experienced kids taught their peers how to drive and pull posts to help set up the cross country course. Great teamwork! 🙌
And a big welcome this week to Miss Lulu the barn cat! 🐈‍⬛ She is in training to be the head of the welcoming committee!

We were way too busy having fun to remember to take very many pictures tonight! 10 members attended FFA district 12 kickoff tonight at Paoli after a delicious dinner at El Compadre. Students participated in activities planned by district officers while the advisor attended meetings. It was a great opportunity to get to know students from other schools, see student leadership in action, and learn more about what FFA has to offer. The vision of FFA is to develop leaders, build community, and advance agriculture. 🌽

Leadership and agricultural education are pillars of FFA. Our young leaders knocked it out of the park yesterday at the Daviess County farm fair! They shared their love of poultry and the process of hatching eggs with hundreds of 4th graders. It was a long day, but they had a great time flipping the classroom and being the teachers.

Today we celebrated a great victory over the weeds in the raised beds! When we returned to school this semester, the weeds were thick and over our heads. Through a lot of hard work and sweat, we now have a beautifully mulched area to plant our fall garden. Along the way, we dug up potatoes that we planted last year and enjoyed working with our culinary friends to create tasty dishes. The kids really worked hard and each of them should be proud of their contributions.

Like and share to spread the word. We have big things planned for this school year!

We had a fun and educational day today at the antique show in Elnora. There was so much to see and do as we learned about the progression of agriculture through the centuries.

Congratulations to our livestock skillathon team! We had fun, learned a lot, and have a good idea of what we need to study to compete again next year.

What a busy week of fun, collaboration, and hands-on learning! Ag students teamed up with culinary students to turn our freshly dug potatoes into gourmet dishes. We dug, washed, cut, peeled, boiled, baked, and fried as we learned how to turn our crops into meals. So many lessons were learned about recipes, ingredients, timing, and teamwork. A big shoutout to Mrs. Sexton and Shoals Culinary & Hospitality for letting us invade their space, sharing their knowledge, and critiquing our work.

While cleaning out the raised beds, we struck gold! Yukon Gold, that is! We can’t wait to collaborate with culinary students to see how many different potato dishes we can make!
Several people have asked what they can do to support our program. If you have any of the following lying around, we’d be grateful for donations:
-seeds for fall planting: broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, cauliflower, carrots
-bagged pine and cedar shavings

“Spark” and her 11 friends joined Jug Rox Farm this week! They are adjusting well. We are excited for fresh eggs for our culinary classes!
