It's hard to imagine a world where humanity would survive a nuclear apocalypse, which is why it's probably good that scientists at the University of California developed a new synthetic melanin called Selenomelanin by modifying our natural pheomelanin. This new melanin, enhanced with selenium, offers significantly better protection against radiation.
Is this humanity's future?

Planned Parenthood isn't the United States largest provider of abortions... but someone else is. In this short video, I discuss the crucial role of human s***m structure and how it can result in embryonic mosaic aneuploidies, which end up impacting the viability of human embryos, resulting in just a third of conceptions making it all the way to term.
It's time pro-lifers reconsider their beliefs.

Ever wondered why fruit flies seem to magically end up in any glass of wine that's left out. You might think they're after the sugar in the wine, but you would be mistaken. It's not the sugar they're after, but the yeast.
Yeast is not only a key ingredient in wine but also a vital part of a fruit fly's diet, providing essential amino acids that boost their offspring's survival.

Iodine is an essential nutrient needed for brain development and research indicates that iodine deficient children lose up to 15 IQ points compared to their peers. Could this simple mineral be the key to understanding why IQ scores tend to be lower in Africa than elsewhere in the world?

Cleopatra's family (the Ptolemies) were prolifically incestous. You'd expect genetic disaster, right? Instead, however, the Ptolemies thrived. In this video, we explain how, unlike the Habsburgs, the Ptolemies managed to avoid inbreeding depression creating one of history's most powerful dynasties.

I always thought red meat's cancer risk was due to how we prepare it.
But new research shows that red meat itself may be inherently carcinogenic.
In this short, we look at the studies comparing the cancer mortality rates of carnivorous animals (meat-eaters) to their non-meat-eating counterparts.

The history of science is full of stories of great female scientists that were reduced and stifled by those around them. Clara Immerwahr was the first German woman to receive a PhD in chemistry. A brilliant scientist in her own right, Clara's life and career were cut short after her marriage to the renowned chemist and Nobel Prize recipient Fritz Haber.
In this video, we discuss Clara's overlooked contributions and the challenges she faced. This is very much a story of lost potential, but it serves as a reminder to all that we must do all we can to protect the rights and freedoms of women, as they become increasingly challenged.

You're not alone... and there is nothing wrong with you. Most people lose the ability to read and even form coherent sentences while dreaming due to the way sleep affects Broca's and Wernicke's areas.

Did our ancestors practice cannibalism? The evidence says yes... but why exactly did they stop? After all, we know of over 1300 species that practice cannabalism (including primates). One theory suggests it may have had something to do with the calorific value of human bodies (or lack thereof).
