I think this is a great "a picture is worth a thousand words" image. Whether trauma, shame, or just lack of understanding because you were young, moving forward works best when we can reconcile our various selves at various stages of understanding and maturity - irrational protection from a young child's viewpoint with a mature acceptance of risk and the possibility of being wrong as necessary to creativity and growth.
