Today, our students and staff took time to learn, remember, and honor the heroes of September 11, 2001. 🇺🇸

This morning, they watched the Bedford County Veterans Council’s livestream, reflected on the courage and sacrifice of the heroes of that day, and wrote thank-you letters expressing their gratitude. They also spent time learning about the history and significance of the American flag and what it represents to our nation.

Next Tuesday, September 15th, Southside Elementary will be celebrating Dot Day! 🎉

Dot Day is inspired by the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds and is all about creativity, courage, and making your mark. It encourages students to believe in themselves, try something new, and discover what they can create.

To celebrate, students and staff are invited to wear dots of any kind—polka dots, dotted patterns, colorful circles, or anything else that shows off your creativity! ⚫⚪🔴

Let’s fill Southside with dots and remind everyone that we all have a special mark to make! ✨

We’re excited to see our 3rd–5th grade students hit the court! Please see the graphic for all the important details.

⛹️‍♀️ Girls: Monday, September 14 | 2:45–3:45 PM
⛹️‍♂️ Boys: Tuesday, September 15 | 2:45–3:45 PM

Students must bring athletic attire, specifically tennis shoes, and a signed permission slip is required to participate.

Celebrating our staffulty is our favorite! 🎉🎉🎉

Congratulations to Ms. Stephens, who was recognized as our Wellworth Bank Teacher of the Month! She does so much for her students and for our whole school! 🍎🏆

Mrs. Tabitha Canady, our amazing EIS Clerk, was given the “Tireless Award” for her tireless work to master and lead us through Synergy with patience and a smile 😊 🛞

Tradition continues at Southside! 🐴 🍩 We love our staffulty and enjoyed sharing “horse show donuts” with them! We cued up the famous organ music 🎶 in costume and brought some sweet smiles!

The Celebration means Optimist Club’s famous donuts we only get once each year, and a well-deserved week long break for our staffulty! 🐴❤️ It was a FUN FRIDAY!

Pink Day for Dolly! 🩷

Our teachers and staff wanted to celebrate and remember someone who gave their all to children and shared her love of reading with them. Dolly Parton was an inspiration to so many, and hearing things like “She gave me a book when I was a baby!” is such a testament to the amazing person she was.

As Dolly and her Imagination Library would say: “Read More, Learn More, Care More, and Be More!” 📚

We are excited to welcome our Southside families back for our 2026–2027 Parent Night!

⏰ 4:30–6:00 p.m.

Sessions are in 30 minute increments! However, the third grade parent meeting is only at 5:30!
