"After almost 30 years of reviewing theatre for the CJ and LEO, post-pandemic I switched sides and started acting - which alas doesn’t leave much time for writing about it (I’m now in the thick of rehearsals for “Julius Caesar”).
But I saw this production of Godot last weekend. And it is a stunning piece of work.
Some people harbor the notion that “community” theatre implies compromises in quality and programming.
And in fact any great “community theatre” ought to offer programming that offers pathways for inexperienced amateurs to explore the art and find their way in.
Shelby County Community Theatre does this extremely well, both onstage and through its classes in acting, directing, etc. (I’ve taken several classes myself).
But that mission is not in conflict with artistic excellence. In fact quite the opposite: those activities nourish one another.
SCCT is a company that likes to stretch its performers and its audiences. A few years back, I reviewed its production of Moliere’s “Tartuffe, then its productions of “The Crucible,” and Jane Martin’s “Talking With,” and others (some links below in comments).
This production, directed by Clint Gill, is as fun - and as formidable - as anything you’ll likely see on an area stage this year. And no matter what you think (or think you think) about this masterpiece, I assure you: the experience will be memorable. If you can get tickets, you should."

I'm thrilled to announce a new partnership between myself and SCCT Academy (The Educational Outreach program at Shelby County Community Theatre.)

Here is their announcement:

Clint Gill will be offering 1-hour Personal Acting Coaching Sessions February 1 - June 28, Monday-Friday at the theatre. The sessions will be scheduled from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please select your date or dates and then enter your preferred time or times in the survey. The cost is $60 per hour.
