Laura Krause/ English Tutor

Laura Krause/ English Tutor I am a certified secondary English teacher, private tutor, and academic coach.

Whether you are seeking college essay support, tutoring, or standardized test prep, I am ready--and excited--to support your academic reading and writing goals. I have devoted the last 17 1/2 years to mentoring and teaching English literature and composition to high school students. Some of my favorite work was done in small group interactions where I could get to know students and then personaliz

e their learning to hone their skills while also nurturing their confidence as they discovered their unique writing voice and analytical skills. It is a privilege to share the moment of dawning awareness when a student discovers they are capable of the skills they never before believed they could master. I support students as they navigate the college application process, especially while composing the personal statement and supplemental essays. Colleges and universities accepting students I have worked with include Johns Hopkins University, Harvard University, Middlebury College, Williams College, Bard College, Brigham Young University, Rutgers University, Villanova University, Fordham University, Rhode Island Institute of Design, University of Vermont, and more. As an AP Reader and experienced secondary educator, my expertise has allowed me to support students preparing for the AP English Language and Composition exam. Since 2018, 92% of my students have earned a 3 or higher, while 67% earned a 4 or 5. Whether you are seeking college essay support, academic tutoring, or assistance preparing for a standardized test, I am ready--and excited--to support all of your academic reading and writing goals. AP Lang students: ⚠️ seven weeks to exam day⚠️.
If you haven't started prepping yet, now is the time to start.
I'm a licensed English teacher and an AP exam scorer. I help students understand what the exam is actually asking, practice using actual prompts from past exams, and build the kind of writing confidence that holds up under pressure.
A few spots still available. DM me to learn more.

⚠️ "I read it. I just can't explain it," is something I hear from students constantly.
There's usually a simple reason: they don't have a framework for moving from reading → thinking → writing.
One of my favorites is SAYS / MEANS / MATTERS:
💬 Says — What does the passage literally say?
🔍 Means — What is the author really communicating?
🤔 Matters — Why does it matter?
It works at every grade level, and once a student has it, the lightbulb turns on.
I build skills like this in one-on-one tutoring. I'm currently accepting new students for reading, writing, and AP Lang prep (exam: May 13th).
DM me to get started.

The AP English Language & Composition exam is May 13th.
That's ten weeks away.
Here's something most people don't know about me: I score the AP Lang exam. Every year, I sit on the other side of those essays and evaluate them against the exact rubric your student will be scored on.
So, when I work with AP Lang students, I know precisely what earns points...and what doesn't.
If your student is aiming for a 3, 4, or 5 this May, I have spots open now. Reach out and let's get started.
