Nature Hates a Tosser 🐢🚮
Every wrapper, bottle, and plastic bag that makes it into a bin is one less threat drifting into the ocean.
Sea turtles have survived on Earth for more than 150 million years, yet today, six of the world's seven species are threatened with extinction. One of their greatest enemies isn't a predator—it's our plastic.
A floating plastic bag looks just like a jellyfish to a hungry turtle. Bottle caps, straws, and soft plastics can block their intestines, leaving them unable to eat, while abandoned fishing nets trap turtles underwater until they drown. Scientists estimate that more than half of all sea turtles have swallowed plastic, and even a single piece can significantly increase their risk of dying.
The good news is that this is one problem we can help solve. Every time you choose the bin instead of the ground, you're protecting wildlife that has been swimming our oceans since before the dinosaurs.
So next time you spot this turtle on a bin, remember: the easiest wildlife rescue you'll ever do is putting your rubbish where it belongs.
