"Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects." - Dalai Lama
Friends, we are experiencing a spiritual crisis of disconnection in our increasingly impersonal world.
Too many people go through their days believing no one notices them and ‘You’ can change that!
When even a small personal moment is shared with someone else the ‘disconnectedness’ ends.
"The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away." – Pablo Picasso
At the heart of genuine connection is a reciprocal, honest generosity of spirit balancing kindness with self-worth.
It’s the central essence of the 7th Rune of the Elder Futhark:
Gebo – Rune of Generosity, Equilibrium, and Exchange
The reward of recognition flows both ways when you are tuned to the Gebo frequency – the gift of attention you offer to others always returns to its source.
If you’re feeling alone, rest assured that your Tribe is out there somewhere.
Locating them does require courage: you must be vulnerable enough to reveal your heart, letting the uniqueness of your own personality shine through.
Being yourself, peculiarities and all, fires up Gebo’s magnetism to draw ‘your people’ toward you.
The secret to finding connection is simple: “Don’t dream it – be it.” (Thank you RHPS)
Gebo is a popular symbol of matrimony and other types of devoted alliances because after bringing folks together it continues to strengthen their common bonds over the long haul.
When we feel true rapport, camaraderie is easy and no one person carries the full burden of sustaining a relationship. This bonding is perhaps the greatest gift of being on the Gebo wavelength.
Our crisis of disconnection is grim. Reaching out - in even the smallest of ways - matters.
"If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito." – Dalai Lama
Runic Practice:
To align with the Rune of Generosity, Equilibrium, and Exchange, try these daily reciprocity routines:
• The Unfiltered Attention Drill: Next time a friend, partner, or colleague speaks to you, put your phone completely out of sight and face them directly. Imagine the equal, intersecting arms of the X-shaped Gebo Rune bridging the space between you, forming a balance of energy where neither person dominates. Give them a full minute or more of unhurried, active listening without interrupting or planning your reply. Notice how their attitude shifts when they feel genuinely seen and heard.
• The Vulnerability Offer: Locating your Tribe requires dropping the polished ‘public’ mask. In your next social setting or post, intentionally share one real, quirky truth, passion, or peculiar interest that you usually filter out to ‘fit in’. Gebo’s magnetic pull works best when your signal is authentic. By revealing something novel about yourself, you give your ‘true people’ a lighthouse beacon to steer towards.
• Baby Steps Altruism Play: Begin the morning by drawing the Gebo and Naudhiz Runes in your journal or on your palms. Commit to executing one small, zero-credit act of kindness today to alleviate someone else’s daily struggle (i.e.: Pay for someone’s coffee, leave a glowing review for a local small business, put a supportive note on a coworker’s desk). These tiny acts can disrupt systemic negativity and launch ripples of community joy.
Bonus BindRune:
A BindRune combining Gebo with Naudhiz creates a space for altruistic acts that uplift your community, replacing struggle with resolve, and doubt with optimism. Responding to need with random acts of kindness builds energetic momentum that will 'pay it forward' in ever-widening circles. This is a blueprint for inducing a high-level form of spiritual Joy (Wunjo), as well.
People Properties:
The Gebo person is defined by their deep understanding of balance, generosity, and the power of fair exchange. The relationships they have are based on mutual respect, trust, and honesty. A balance of reciprocity between individuals is of utmost importance to them. They are celebrated as loyal friends and trusted allies whose love language is generosity. Great at facilitating group dynamics, Gebo people are talented at finding the sweet spot where everyone feels that they’ve been heard and their needs are met. Gebo folks excel in fields of ethics, sociology, negotiation and diplomacy, philanthropy, and any public-facing positions where shared balance is important.
Gebo Affirmations:
"I know my own worth. I am a magnet for authentic connection. I give with joy, receive with grace, and maintain the perfect equilibrium of my wild, beautiful heart."
RuneTip:
When two people draw Gebo on the palms of their hands, then press those hands together (as in a handshake) they form a bond of mutual courtesy, civility, and high regard. Promises and agreements made in this manner carry the status of a vow of honor.

A Postscript from the RuneQueen:
“Why the Elder Futhark and Why Now?”
‘RuneNotes’ is a weekly mini-MasterClass for people seeking knowledge and empowerment from the ancient wisdom of the Elder Futhark Runes, which have millennia of human history behind them.
According to Norse myth, Runes originally came to humankind from Odin himself as a set of holy mysteries and secret wisdom.
Their usage in human history goes back more than two thousand years. Runic alphabets evolved within various cultures so that now they exist in several forms.
The Elder Futhark traces back to ancient peoples of the Nordic and Northern European regions. My family background gave me a comfortable familiarity with Runes as a youth and in recent years I've been working much more intimately with the Elder Futhark.
My focus is on sharing what I've learned from my beloved Elder Futhark and encouraging others to: "Unlock Ancient Wisdom & Embrace Your Power”.
I'm based in Northern California/USA and thus influenced and tuned in to the natural world of the Northern Hemisphere and the cycles of nature as they manifest in these latitudes.
