Affiliate project spotlight! ✨ Funding from the Fibershed Micro-Grant Program supported the expansion of Fiber Pool 2.0 in the Southern California Fibershed's network through partnerships with a cashmere goat ranch and artisan brands for wool and wool-cashmere blends.

🌱 Ranch visits secured fibers, which were partially processed at Mountain Meadow.
🐐 A wool pelletizer project was developed to manage waste wool.
💬 Monthly meetups on topics like policy and fundraising fostered collaboration, while participation in the LA Textile Show opened opportunities for artisan yarn partnerships.

This project highlighted the need to focus on supporting producers and economic opportunities, reinforcing Southern California Fibershed’s role as connectors in the fiber pool. Key lessons in goal-setting, adaptability, and timely pivots will guide their long-term success.

Last weekend we lost a pioneering trailblazer, outlaw designer, rebel and mentor. Sim van der Ryn was one of a kinds and I’m grateful to have known him. My fondest memories are of mushroom hunting, cooking meals in his kitchen, and talking about Empathic Design.

View Sim Van der Ryn's obituary, send flowers and sign the guestbook.

Happy World Fire Cider Making Day! 🔥🌶️🌱

Each year we continue ‘s legacy of teaching our students how to make this spicy, warming vinegar tonic.

Rosemary began teaching this folk recipe to students in our very own CSHS kitchen, and we have since taught countless more budding herbalists how to make this delicious, food-as-medicine tonic.

Our fire cider is a mix of spicy herbs and vegetables like horseradish, onion, garlic, peppers, turmeric, and medicinal herbs gathered from our teaching garden! 🌿

What do you like to put in your fire cider? 🌀
