When I was preparing for my first Black Belt in Karate, my Dad asked me "how much do you want that belt?" And I said "I really want it". Dad said, you have to work hard, nothing is easy, especially if you want it badly. "
Years later, I understood. Schedules go wrong, you become ill and can't practice for a while, or you might be injured and can't put in the same effort as you did, family stuff happens, school stuff happens, etc. I realized that every black belt earned is the product of tenacity, drive, and practice *in spite of* things going awry, and knowing the difference between legit reasons and excuses.
Earn it it EVERY DAY, not just test day.

What a wonderful turnout at the Seattle Chinese Garden for World Tai Chi Day movement exercises. 52 smiling participants and a few children (missing a few adults in the group photo because they had to chase after their children☺️)! A great turnout for the Garden for this event, as I usually average around 30-35 participants.

Active training and Passive training.....
Train Smarter: Active vs. Passive Martial Arts Training | Black Belt Mag
Most training fails not because of effort, but because of attention. While it may feel like we can juggle multiple inputs at once, the brain actually shifts rapidly between tasks—especially when complexity increases.

SWC Kaju students, does it look familar? :) Nekobuto Shodan (cat dance or cat art number 1), Mitose Kosho Ryu Kenpo kata. Since the original method was built around the core of Kosho Ryu, of course there will be similiaries. :)
